The hay bale turkey is back for the fall holiday season!

Run at the Rock

Saturday, December 5th, 9:00am-finish. Join us for this popular trail race with challenging 7 and 14 mile course options. The course route will be identical to last year’s: a 7 mile loop complete with rocks, mud, short rolling hills, waterfall, etc. The race is followed by hot food that’s been voted the best post-race food of any NC race.

The race can be tackled by everyone from first-timers to some of the best trail runners in the state; everyone at the event goes out of their way to make sure all runners have a great experience.

Registration fees vary by race distance and the date by which you register (starting at $40 for the 7-miler if you register by 11/15/2015). For complete registration price details and all other event info please visit http://runattherock.com/.

Celebrate Cedarock! 40th Anniversary Celebration & Ghosts in the Park

Cedarock Park celebrated its 40th anniversary on October 17th with old-timey farm games, Halloween candy, hayrides, face painting, and Open Farm tours. The event was a great success, drawing more than 500 attendees to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and outdoor family fun.

Celebrate Cedarock! was followed by Ghosts in the Park, a story-telling event held under the stars around the bonfire. With breaks for roasting marshmallows and enjoying hot cider, this event also drew a large crowd to wrap up the Foxfire in Cedarock Park series for the year.

If you enjoyed the festival, be sure to join us for our regular Open Farm days, featuring tours of the Garrett farm house and demonstrations of life in the late 1800s- all in full period dress. The next Open Farm days are Saturday, 11/7 and 11/21 from 11:00am-3:00pm. The last Open Farm day of the season will take place on Saturday, 12/5 and feature a special Christmas theme!

With the leaves changing color, the park's a beautiful place to visit for a walk or a hike! Remember, we switch to our winter closing time of 6:00pm in November.

Alamance Parks Recycles!

Alamance Parks has new recycling containers. We encourage visitors to toss recyclables into these blue recycling bins. The blue bins are currently available at Cedarock Park, Shallow Ford Natural Area, Great Bend Park at Historic Glencoe, and Saxapahaw. They are placed next to the regular trash cans.

Only recyclables should go into the blue containers. Thanks for helping us keep our parks clean and green!

We are also looking for a photographer or photography student willing to volunteer their skills to document some of our parks and events. If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities, please contact Katie Gensel at (336) 229-2230. We appreciate your support!
