Exciting preparations are underway for our first ever trip to hear the Chicago Symphony perform on Sunday, November 29.  Our bus is full!  Trip will include a question & answer session with Marin Alsop (guest conductor) and Anna Clyne (composer of Masquerade, one of the works being performed); box lunch in Chicago, and the CSO concert which includes Masquerade, Rhapsody in Blue, and Dvorak Symphony No. 7.
Our Chamber Music Program is up and running!  We are excited to announce that the Euclid Quartet (Quartet in Residence at IUSB) will assist with our June H. Edwards Chamber Music Program this season.  Members Jameson Cooper and Jacob Murphy (violin), Luis Vargas (viola), and Darren Li (cello) teach their respective instruments at IUSB; Cooper also conducts the IUSB Philharmonic.  They will assist with chamber music auditions, will coach groups, and will also give at least one chamber music master class during the season.  This is a terrific additional opportunity for SBYSO students.  Remember that our Chamber Music Program is included for SBYSO students as part of the regular tuition for the season.

We have some wonderful opportunities for our student groups to perform in our community in the coming months:
  • Thursday, December 3, 4:00-5:30pm - Holiday music in the lobby of the Morris Inn (Notre Dame campus)
  • Saturday, Dec. 5, 12:00-4:00pm - Barnes & Noble Book Fair, University Park Mall
  • Saturday, December 19 - Play in upper balcony prior to South Bend Symphony Concert, and during intermission
  • Saturday, March 20, 7:00pm - All chamber groups to perform in Joshi Recital Hall - culminating recital

Our Annual Campaign is underway.  A donation of any size can be an important investment in the future of the SBYSO.  Thank you in advance for your support.

If you wish to contribute, please visit our website, www.sbyso.org and click on "Support the SBYSO," then next to Annual Fund, click "More Info."  Donations can be made by PayPal or by check (payable to SBYSO).  All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  Thank you in advance for your support.

This past Sunday, Nov. 1, the SBYSO hosted a viola master class given by Caroline Coade, who serves as Acting Assistant Principal Viola of the Detroit Symphony. Six of our SBYSO violists performed (3 from each ensemble); Ms Coade also offered a technique workshop for all violists in attendance.

This is the first event in our 2015-16 master class series.  Check our Facebook page or website for information about upcoming master classes.  All master classes are free and open to the public.  We hope you can attend!
