For all you history buffs out there, the name FRANK goes way back! This fabulous name is from both french and germanic tribes that established the Frankish Empire, extending over what is now France, Germany, and Italy. The tribe is thought to have gotten their name from a type of spear they used, or franco.
According to our favorite source, Nameberry.com, the name FRANK was in the top 10 from the 1880s until the 1920s. Although the name has dropped in popularity since then, it still has a certain warm, friendly, real-guy feel that could (and should!) come back into style. Maybe thanks to Sinatra, it's become a new hipster favorite with such couples as Diana Krall and Elvis Costello.
FRANK has a wide variety of interesting namesakes, including architect Frank Lloyd Wright, artist Frank Stella and musician Frank Zappa, to name a few.
