Here's what I've been thinking about in
November.
I think about Paris. I was supposed to be in Paris on that Friday night; a work trip took me to Berlin instead that weekend. After, I did not return to the city immediately because I would have worked my days inside an apartment, and spent the evenings inside, too, due to the curfew. But I'll be back.
I tweeted this about not knowing what to say, but still having hope, and I still feel that way. In essence, our normal never really returns, it just shifts a little bit. I felt a surge of desire to do and create, to react. This post, while not an eloquent essay about life, has important advice about staying optimistic when everything's horrible, and one main thing I'm trying to take from it: you can't solve/fix everything; focus on a few things where you can make a difference.
Can you identify yours? I'm working on my list.

Left Brain: On technology, business, productivity, and self:
- 25 Famous People on Being in Charge. Spoiler: actually, they're all women. But think to yourself for a second, did that change anything in your mind about what you'll read? Why do we still have a problem with women being in charge?
- "Life is all about not knowing, and then doing something anyway. All of life is like this. All of it." An essay on screw finding your passion.
- What to say at networking events to eliminate awkward moments. And from me, How to Talk to Strangers (aka Networking).
- I have almost finished reading Elizabeth Gilbert's "Big Magic," and while it's not mind-shattering for me, I'm really enjoying the set of podcasts she created to accompany the book (for free). The spoken word (via podcasts) can still make an impact nothing else will (you can hear the podcast I co-hosted about Italy here). The first episode of "Magic Lessons" about guilt, and how procrastination is really fear, through the story of a mother who wanted to be a writer, is great. There was a part where I actually felt a chill. I'll leave you to find your own chill in the episode.

My One Thing: Be Present, Give Thanks
U.S. Thanksgiving is coming up next week (one of my favorite holidays) but even if you don't have it where you live, why not take the time to have a really nice meal with friends or family, with no smartphones in sight? I've all but removed most notifications from my phone so I rarely *need* to check it during a meal unless I'm expecting something. Why not take the time to remove some unwanted notifications from your phone?
Here are instructions on removing notifications for both iOS (Apple) and Android.
