Founded in Fall of 2014, the group meets to discuss the landscape of affordable housing in Central Ohio. Intended to bridge the gap between academic theory and practice, the Dialogue is led by scholars at the Knowlton School of The Ohio State University and attended by representatives of over a dozen housing-related organizations. Digitally Enhanced 1922 Thesis Gives Historical Views

A 1922 Ohio State University masters thesis by Forest Ira Blanchard contains a wealth of panoramic photographs covering much of the city of Columbus. His photographs are remarkable for their depiction of typical streets, railroad corridors, and neighborhoods, rather than the more typical images of important buildings or events. As such, the photographs provide a vital source of information about the urban form of Columbus, its neighborhoods and development.

Using historic real estate maps and local knowledge, CURA is assisting the content curators in relocating a number of historic photos. The map of Blanchard’s photos is hosted by the City of Columbus on the “collaboration and information portal,” along with numerous other maps showing historical census data, real estate, redlining, and more.

CURA reproduced the original thesis into a digitally-enhanced PDF complete with links of most photos to the current Google streetview scene of the same location. This provides a stark vision of "then and now" for viewers.

Shanghai, 1750 to 2050 - History, Culture and Language

Explore the history of Shanghai over a 300-year-period and discover how this megalopolis has evolved over the years and will change again in this century. History 3798.03, an excursion during May Session 2016, will give students insight and historical perspective through classes at Shanghai's East China Normal University as well as by visiting major historical, architectural, transportation and urban planning venues in and around Shanghai. All instruction is in English.

The program is organized both chronologically and thematically and seeks a balance between detailed examination of particular defining moments and discussion of broad patterns of continuity and change across historical periods.
