GOVERNMENT plans to level the playing field on school funding were today broadly welcomed by SCHOOLS NorthEast.


The Chancellor announced in his Autumn Statement today that he was introducing a National Funding Formula for schools that would replace the current Dedicated School Grants payment system which sees some London schools receiving double the amount per pupil than the North East.

Schools Northeast   New research conducted by Oxford University's Career Service shows that sixth-form girls are less career confident than boys, which can affect the types of jobs they secure. Girls seem to display different attitudes to what they seek in a career - attitudes that significantly affect the types of jobs they secure. The survey gathered nearly 4,000 responses from sixth-formers and revealed that pupils are already internalising gender stereotypes with regards to their career choices.  Read more >

Schools Northeast   Stats of the week come from SCHOOLS NorthEast this time, in light of the announcement of a new fair funding formula for schools. We looked at how much funding per pupil each local authority area in the North East is getting in 2015-16 and how much more or less they would receive if the region was funded in line with the national average and the London average.
