Volunteers Needed for Fall 2015 Commencement 

The UWF Fall 2015 Commencement Ceremonies will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the Pensacola Bay Center, located at 201 East Gregory Street in downtown Pensacola.

There will be two ceremonies as follows:
10:00 am (CASSH and CEPS)
2:00 pm (COB, CSE, CoH)

The Florida Society of the Social Sciences (F3S) invites you to present your paper or poster at the 11th Annual Conference of the Social Sciences (CSS). The conference, themed “Pushing Boundaries: Extending Reach and Amplifying Voice in Social Science Research”, will be held at the University of Florida, all day Saturday March 19, 2016.

The keynote speaker will be the renowned Dr. Patricia Hill Collins, Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland and Charles Phelps Taft Emeritus Professor of Sociology in the Department of African American Studies at the University of Cincinnati. This is an interdisciplinary conference that provides graduate and undergraduate students from diverse fields of the social sciences the opportunity to showcase their research in a collegiate environment and to network with other social science students/researchers on campus.

UWF GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARLY AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY GRANT by Jan 29


The Scholarly and Creative Activities Committee (SCAC) is pleased to announce the cycle 2 Call for Proposals for Graduate Student Scholarly and Creative Activity Grants for the Spring 2016 semester. 

Graduate students in good standing may now submit applications for independent projects or research required for degree completion. Grants of up to $1,500 may be given. Guidelines and application forms are available on the SCAC web page

The application deadline is January 29, 2016, 5:00 P.M., CST. Proposals not meeting formatting requirements or that are received after the deadline will be ineligible for an award.

Recruiting Volunteers to Judge the UWF Marks Tournament 

 
January 22-23, UWF will host the 2016 Marks Invitational tournament. Hosted annually, the speech and debate tournament is one of UWF’s oldest academic events. If you are interested in serving as a judge for the tournament, please contact Dr. Chris Fenner, UWF director of speech and debate, at cfenner@uwf.edu

Office 2016 Upgrade for Office 365, eDesktop, and ITS Computer Labs

 
Beginning January 4, 2016, Office 365, eDesktop, and ITS-supported computer labs will be equipped with Office 2016. The previous version, Office 2013, will still be available for use on eDesktop. For additional information or assistance, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 474-2075.

Make a Difference: LIVE United! 

United Way's Workplace Campaign is kicking off. Make a difference in Escambia County by giving the united way! When you give the united way, you can select where your donation will make an impact or trust United Way to invest your donation where it's most needed. Last year, United Way carefully reviewed and funded 43 programs at 30 agencies. Please make an online donation or return the pledge card sent through campus mail. See more details online

Women's and Gender Studies Accepting Nominations

2015-2016 Mary F. Rogers Women’s Studies Faculty Award
Deadline: Feb. 1 
         

The Women’s Studies program at UWF solicits nominations and applications for the 2015­16 Mary F. Rogers Women’s Studies Faculty Award, given annually to a faculty member who has made significant contributions to the field of Women’s and Gender Studies at UWF. Nominations of teaching faculty at UWF who have made a substantial contribution to Women’s and Gender Studies with a record of scholarship and/or teaching in this area are encouraged. The winner of the award will receive a $500 award and be invited to speak at the Annual Women’s Studies Conference on Monday, March 21, 2016. The nomination package should include the nomination form (attached) and a brief vita, highlighting relevant accomplishments. The deadline for nominations, including self­ nominations, is Feb. 1. Materials should be submitted to Katherine Romack, Department of English, Building 50, Room 242. Information: kromack@uwf.edu, 261­4163.

15th Annual Women’s Studies Conference Call for Works 
Deadline: Feb. 12

The University of West Florida’s 15th Annual Women’s Studies Conference invites undergraduate and graduate submissions that take up women, gender, or sexuality-related topics and issues as a primary focus. Read here for more information.  

Florida Research Fellows Call for Proposals 
Winter Submission Deadline: Dec. 31               

One of the programmatic initiatives the Center for Research and Economic Opportunity (CREO) intends to fund is the UWF Florida Research Fellow Award Program. Funding is available to support this award over a three-year period and individual awards are for a period of twelve (12) consecutive months. Prior recipients may reapply in subsequent years. The award consists of a $6,000 annual research and professional development support fund plus up to 1,000 hours of funded graduate research assistant time. Any unused seed and student support funding will be returned to the Florida Research Fellow award pool at the end of the twelve (12) month period.
