The Office of HIV/AIDS Housing is pleased to present a new resource document that offers guidance on providing Short-Term Rent, Mortgage, and Utility (STRMU) assistance under the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) program. STRMU assistance is designed to prevent homelessness of individuals and families by helping them remain in their own dwellings and increasing their access to supportive services. The resource defines STRMU eligibility, outlines the use of HOPWA funds for STRMU, describes methods to determine the eligible period of assistance, and explains the waiver process. This resource supports the efforts of HOPWA grantees and project sponsors to maintain quality programs and improve the coordination of housing assistance and supportive services to help increase housing stability and reduce risks of homelessness for vulnerable households.
