MINI-VANS HAVE ARRIVED

Greene CATS will begin using modified minivans on its routes soon. Purchasing minivans is part of a new Greene CATS strategy to right size our fleet of vehicles to our community needs. The minivans will be equipped with fold out ramps that will make it much easier for individuals, who have difficulty navigating steps, to enter and exit the vehicle.  The vans will be able to access narrow lanes and drive ways that are not currently accessible to our wide body buses. With these additional vehicles, we will be able to provide a better service along with a reduction of operating costs. Additionally, they will allow us to hire drivers who do not have a Commercial Driver’s License to operate them. So look for these minivans with the Greene CATS logo passing through your neighborhood soon!

Spotlight: Lucy Sherman

Hi! My name is Lucy Sherman and I am currently an intern at Greene CATS. I graduate from Wright State University in December with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Affairs and a Pubic and Social Service Transportation Certificate. The Urban Affairs course work focuses on identifying problems in society and developing thoughtful policies, plans, and programs in order to sustain a healthy quality of life. I concentrated on transportation because I believe in the positive effect it can have on individual lives and communities. Since starting at Greene CATS I have been able to see and experience all of the working parts of transportation. Day to day tasks such as shadowing the schedulers and verifying driver manifests, to tasks that happen every 5 years like proposals for service providers. The task I enjoyed the most was analyzing the flex routes to ensure their efficiency and effectiveness. Through the variety of tasks I’ve been able to see what types of positions I would prefer and what positions I can excel at in the work force. I have really been soaking in so much information and am very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Greene CATS family!

A NOTE FROM

Ken Collier, Executive Director

Most people think that Greene CATS is a Greene County Department like Job and Family Services and is funded through the general budget. Instead Greene CATS was originally established in 1999 as a 501c3 Not-for-Profit organization with a Board of Trustees recruited and elected by the community. In order to continue receiving federal transit funding however in 2004 Greene CATS became a Transit Board with the Trustees being appointed by the Greene County Commissioners.  All then current members of the 501c3 Board were appointed to the new Transit Board at that time. By agreement Greene CATS is the Direct Recipient of federal and state transit funding for Greene County but does not receive any direct funding from Greene County. Currently Woodrow (Woody) Stroud is Chair, David Reid is Vice-Chair, and David Middleton is Secretary/Treasurer.  Blanche Casey, Anne Gerard, and Todd Hiney are also members with Casey being appointed in October 2015 to fill the unexpired term of Bud McCormick.  The seventh Board position became vacant in November when former member and Finance Chair, Bill Perrill’s term expired.  This group of highly capable volunteer leaders meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 8:00 am to determine the direction, create the policies, establish the budgets, and approve the major expenditures of Greene CATS.  All Board meetings are open to the public. Although Greene CATS is officially a separate governmental agency with its own Board we continue, as throughout our 15 year history, to work cooperatively with the Greene County Commissioners to secure funding and provide leadership and oversight for the service we provide. Until our paths cross again, Ken Collier, Executive Director.
