Giving Tuesday Match Grant
 Giving Tuesday is a national day of giving that takes place each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving; this year, that's December 1. Giving Tuesday creates a moment around the holidays dedicated to giving— similar to how Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday have become synonymous with holiday shopping. On this day, we invite you to give to Birchwood Camp by donating or volunteering in a way that is personally meaningful.
The UMC Giving Tuesday match grant is available again this year, which means you can double your support for Birchwood Camp! This match opportunity is provided by the Global Ministries division of the United Methodist Church (UMC) through their direct giving program, The Advance, which means 100% of your gift supports Birchwood Camp. For just 24 hours gifts made to Birchwood Camp through Advance #931068 have the chance to be matched.
The Important Details:
This match grant is available to all UMC Advance projects across the globe, not just Birchwood Camp. It’s very important to follow the directions below so that your gift has the best chance of being matched on Giving Tuesday.
- You must make your gift by credit or debit card during the hours specified below at our project page on the Advance website. Here’s the direct link: http://www.umcmission.org/Give-to-Mission/Search-for-Projects/Projects/931068. Click the red "Give Now" button.
- UMC Global Ministries will allocate matching funds dollar for dollar up to the first $1 million in gifts to Advance projects received online on December 1, 2015, between 12:00a.m. and 11:59p.m. Central Time.
- That means that for western US time zones the match grant actually opens on November 30th at: 9:00p.m. Alaska Time, 10:00p.m. Pacific Time, 11:00p.m. Mountain Time, and so on. We recommend setting a reminder on your device or calendar for the time the match grant opens in your time zone.
- During the last two years the matching funds were used up within the first 10-60 minutes of giving. Make your gift as soon as giving opens in your time zone for a better chance that your gift will be matched!
- A maximum of $2,500 per individual gift to Birchwood Camp can be matched. Birchwood Camp may receive a maximum of $25,000 in matching funds on Giving Tuesday. Help us reach our $25,000 giving goal by making a gift as soon as the Giving Tuesday campaign opens!

Your support is vital; in order to make the camp experience accessible to all families, the fees we charge for our camping programs are much lower than the actual cost of running these programs.

Register for Winter Camp
Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join us for Winter Youth Break-Away on December 27-30, 2015. Campers will enjoy four days full of sledding, friends, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, delicious food, broom ball, worship, games, snow shelter building, crafts, a sweat-prayer experience in our sweat lodge, ice skating, and much more! Campers will have the opportunity to build community, make new friends, try new winter activities, experience different and unique worship styles and have some fun during their winter break! Plus- many of our veteran summer staff from across the country will be returning as counselors at winter camp this year!
Winter Youth Break-Away starts at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27 and ends at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30.
The $175 registration fee covers nine delicious meals, plenty of snacks, lodging in the cozy (heated!) cabins and all the program & activities. Register before November 20 to take advantage of payment plans. Register by December 17 to avoid a $20 late fee. Leadership Transition Update
Last week we announced that our Camp Director, Marie Sweezey, and her husband Stephen Sweezey, our Program Director & Camp Manager will be moving and transitioning out leadership at Birchwood Camp in the summer of 2016. Click here to read the original announcement.
