Bringing Celebrations and Concern to our church family

"And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it." - Exodus 20:25

Here's what's happening this week...

Recent sermons are available on Pastor Jeff's blog. Pastor Jeff is away this week studying scripture at Columbia Theological Seminary, in Atlanta, and attending the annual meeting of the Society for Biblical Literature.

REIGN OF CHRIST SUNDAY
Come celebrate the culmination of liturgical year with you church family. Mark the passing of the seasons, lift up prayers of thanksgiving, and eagerly anticipate the fullness of things. The Rev. Sarah Henkel will be preaching on apocalypse. The choir will be singing Howells' Like as the Hart.

BOY SCOUT WREATHS
Our local boy scout Troop 10 will be selling green wreaths after worship. They will be in the hall entrance by the handicapped ramp (where the CSA pick-up takes place).

ADVENT WINDOWS
A week from Sunday, November 29, is the first Sunday of Advent! This year, Rev. Lynn would like to turn our church building into a life-sized intergenerational devotional Advent Calendar, and she needs your help to do this!

She is asking for volunteers-- individuals, families or groups-- who will each take a window somewhere in our building and decorate it as an “Advent Window.”  Each week during Advent, windows will be unveiled, and members, friends and visitors of all ages can see the Advent Window for each day of Advent, as we progress through the season. Window themes should be in keeping with the spirit of Advent, and not what we commonly think of as store “Christmas” displays.

If you want to be part of the Advent windows project, just email or call or speak to Rev. Lynn Dunn:  education.lynn@optonline.net  More information will be in the bulletin on Sunday!

ADVENT DEVOTIONALS
This year's Advent Devotional, "Proclaiming the Good News of God's Peace," is organized and edited by the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, former moderator of the General Assembly. It features feature reflections on the Belhar confession interwoven with daily scripture texts. Print copies will be available after worship on the First Sunday of Advent, November 29.

MESSIAH: CANDLELIGHT CONCERT PERFORMANCE

In Mission...
CALL TO PRAYER
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) office of World Mission received a letter late yesterday from the Rev. Fadi Dagher, general secretary of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, urging continued prayers, peacemaking efforts and resistance to the so-called Islamic State, or ISIS. Read the call for prayer here

CHRISTMAS CARDS FOR PRISONERS
Remember those blank Christmas Cards you don’t need? We hope you’ve been saving them so we can again write Christmas cards to prisoners AND also give them cards & stamps to write to their families, etc. Calendars are much appreciated as well (NO wire please.) Put them on the table on the landing by the entrance to the Church House. We plan on writing cards after worship on Sunday Nov. 29.

GIFTS FOR CHILDREN WITH INCARCERATED PARENTS
Through Angel Tree Ministries, we give Christmas presents to local children with an incarcerated parent. We also invite them and their families to our Advent luncheon after worship on Sunday Dec. 6. In the coming weeks there will be a "Christmas Tree" in the Church House with "angels" indicating a child's name, age, possible gift, etc. Simply take an angel, record it on our list, get a present, wrap it and bring it back to church. Stay tuned for more info and additional ways to assist.

CAN WE BAN PLASTIC BAGS IN WESTCHESTER?
The answer is yes! Last Sunday, Anne Bobroff-Hajal and former Hudson Riverkeeper John Cornin shared with us pending legislation to ban single-use bags in our county. Also in attendance was Councilwoman Milagros Lacuona. Mr. Cronin inscribed a copy of his book, co-authored with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., with these words: "To Rev. Geary and the White Plains Presbyterian Church: We are All Our Earth's Brother's and Sister's Keepers. All the Best" The Riverkeepers: Two Activists Fight to Reclaim Our Environment as a Basic Human Right now resides in our church library.
