Arkansas Tailwater Update
Things are really coming together on the tailwater...finally! After fairly dismal flow conditions from June through September due high releases matching heavy rain and runoff, flows are finally stabilizing at a great level. Current Flows (100 CFS) have transformed this fishery back into the phenomenal option it is, in a matter of days, and based on all available communication from Lake Pueblo State Parks it should hold there through February (Winter Storage). Over the last 10 days, our guides have been scouring the fishery, as many things have changed due to the long period of high flows. Feeding lies, holding water, etc. are dramatically different in certain sections. Certain things have been observed to already be on track within the bug population, however. Heavy Midge pupation along with Adult hatches are already very evident and there is a ton of BWO nymphal drift activity. One of the very cool things about the Arkansas Tailwater in the Winter is that a BWO hatch can be found almost any day. So, with as much BWO nymphal drift as we are seeing, we can't be too far from some significant hatches. As always, certain static and tight line nymphing methods will be the primary productive methods for now, with various favorite attractor nymphs and droppers.....Long story short, the Ark Tailwater is back on track as one of the best Winter Tailwater's in the Rockies!
