Loose Change Sunday

loose changeThis Sunday, November 29th is “Loose Change Sunday”.  The loose change in the collection plate will go to the Deacons to allow them to continue helping people and organizations in need.  If you don’t have loose change, but still want to contribute, just write a check and put “Deacons fund” in the memo line.  Thank you for your support!

The Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is ready for you to select a tag or more to assure that someone who isn’t as fortunate as we are can still have a joyful Christmas.  Please stop by the Giving Tree in the Narthex to make your selection.  Wrapped presents with the original tag should be returned to the church by Sunday, December 13th.  Thank you!

Christmas Display Case

christmas display

In keeping with the Advent and Christmas theme,“Hark the Glad Sound,” we would like to fill the display case with ornaments or Christmas decorations that have a musical instrument or musical theme.  Please put your name on them and bring them to the office or give them to Julie Dickman or Joann Briggs this week.  Thank you in advance for sharing with our congregation.

Advent Crafts

On Sunday, December 6th at 11:00 am, join us in the Fellowship Hall to make crafts to help get your Holiday season off to a great start.  The cost is $10.00 for one Nativity Set and Mary’s Ornament.  Make checks out to First Presbyterian Church, and either give them to Cindy or put in her staff mail box. Click HERE to sign up online, or go to the table in the Narthex, by this Sunday, November 29th.

First Kids Volunteers

first kidsFirst Kids is our Children’s Ministry for ages 3 years old – 5th grade.  We are looking for volunteers to help out with our First Kids classes on Sunday mornings.  Can you help?
Sign up here (it’s easy!) or contact Cindy for details.  Cindy@brightonfirstpres.org

Boys & Girls Club of Brighton

christmas cards

For several years Mission Committee members have individually purchased cards and given them to the Boys and Girls Club of Brighton to write and send Christmas cards as a “Thank You” to their individual sponsors and to the many volunteers of the Club.  Postage has also been provided with the cards.  Members feel this worthwhile project teaches writing and penmanship skills, as well as social manners.  The children not only think about what these people mean in their lives but learn etiquette and graciousness.  Mission Committee members are asking our congregation for help by providing stamps for this project.  We will have a container on the display case in the Narthex through Sunday, December 6th.  Please join us by dropping in a few stamps or maybe even a book of stamps.  (Fresh out of stamps and would prefer to drop in some loose change?  We’ll be happy to purchase your stamps for you!)  Thank you!

Cafe Justo isn’t just coffee!

cafe justo

Café Justo has been a delight to the coffee drinkers in our church and has helped to support coffee growers in Mexico.  The initial 22 lb. shipment was sold or served by the Deacons and an additional 23 lbs. has been ordered.  Five extra bags (3 lbs. decaffeinated, 1 lb. Robusta and 1 lb. Arabica) were ordered and will be available for purchase soon.

While this project was designed by the Mission Committee as a one-time event, additional orders may be placed in the future based on demand.  For the time being, you may order individually from the website www.justcoffee.org but you will pay a bit more.  Because the church is a partner with Café Justo, we receive a slightly better price than that available to individuals.  Thank you for supporting this important mission.

Cub Scouts’ Christmas Dinner

spaghetti dinner

Join the Cub Scouts on Friday, December 4th for a yummy Italian dinner, music, and fun.  The scouts will be serving the dinner in the Fellowship Hall from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.  There is no cost for the meal, but seating is limited, so you must reserve your spot beforehand by contacting John Nap:  720-878-4900  cubmaster@brightonpack193.com

A Very Bright'n Merry Christmas!

On Sunday, December 6th at 4:00 pm, BrightonMusic will present “A Very Bright’n Merry Christmas!” here at our church.  Suitable for all ages, this concert will feature sacred and popular Christmas favorites performed by BrightonBrass, Trillseekers, Bright’nJazz and the BrightonMusic Orchestra, along with performances by First Presbyterian Church’s Carillon Choir and organ soloist Marlys Harp.  Admission is free, but bring a dollar or two to purchase holiday treats at the Bake Sale!

Colorado Gives Day for Pennock Center

colorado gives day

Tuesday, December 8th is Colorado Gives Day: on that day, thousands of donors will come together to support Colorado nonprofits like ours. Last year, a record-breaking $26.2 million was raised for Colorado nonprofits.    This year, Pennock Center’s goal is to raise $2,000 to support our low cost mental health services. You can donate online at ColoradoGives.org on Tuesday, December 8th or schedule your donation in advance! Click to read the 2015 Appeal Letter and Colorado Gives Day Request.  Thank you for considering making a donation to Pennock Center!

La Posada

la posada

Everyone is invited to attend the "La Posada" on Saturday, December 12th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, at First Presbyterian Church in Aurora @ 1585 Kingston Street. The Hispanic/Latino Gala Task Force will conclude our yearlong celebration with La Posada, an inter-active traditional Hispanic journey with Jose and Maria in verse and song in search of posada/lodging.  A fiesta follows in the fellowship hall with tamales, salsa, a piñata and champurrado for all!  So that we have an accurate food count, please RSVP to Cindy by December 6th.

Throughout 2015, the task force is sponsoring a series of educational, cultural, theological, political events and celebrations for Denver Presbytery, recognizing and valuing the diverse gifts of Latino/and Americans in our worship community. The goal has been to utilize both education and celebration in order to gain an understanding and an experiential sense of how Latino/as enhances our spiritual lives and church ministry.

Senior/Staff Holiday Appreciation Luncheon

Alternate Gift Giving

Gift

Are you tired of giving Aunt Mary a box of chocolates for Christmas?  Are you wondering what Uncle Harry will do with another tie?  Maybe you’re tired of giving presents that aren’t really special anymore.  If you are looking for something meaningful to give to those on your list this year, Mission Committee has an idea for you.

Through December 20th, you have the opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping while supporting three missions of our church.  Here’s how it works.  You select one (or more); give a donation to that organization (s) in someone’s name, or perhaps in memoriam; and a description of your organization (s) of choice will be printed on a card for you to give to the person in whose name your donation was made.  You may choose from:

SPONSOR A CHILD…and Transform a life in Zimbabwe

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL

HIS HAND’S MINISTRIES’ FOOD CUPBOARD

You will have the opportunity to directly make an impact on one or more of these three groups when you stop by the Alternate Gift Giving table in the Narthex.  A Mission Committee member will be there to answer questions you might have.  Checks or cash are welcome.

Christmas Eve Poinsettias

christmas poinsettiasIf you would like to purchase a poinsettia to add to the celebration of our Christmas Eve services, the cost is $11.00 for a 6 ½ inch foil-wrapped pot.  The deadline for orders is Sunday, December 13th. Make checks payable to First Presbyterian Church and put “Poinsettia” in the memo line.  303-659-2192 stephanie@brightonfirstpres.org
*The flowers may be taken home on Sunday, December 27th.
