Don't miss any of our exciting events this month!

Science on the Sound is first up on Dec. 5th, followed by Christmas ships on the 17th

The first Saturday of the month, December 5th, will feature a Science on the Sound lecture by Sarah Morley about the Elwha River restoration, and how the area is changing after the removal of the dam.

As the festively-decorated Argosy Christmas Ships make their annual trip past Redondo Beach and the MaST Center, join us for a bonfire on the beach or stay warm inside and visit the aquarium, featuring food and drinks thanks to Salty's and Cutter's Point Coffee. Click the poster below to visit our Facebook event page!

If you missed Squid-a-Rama in mid-November, check out the video of our live dive and squid release featured below. We had a great turnout for the live dive, as well as the squid dissections led by the MaST Center's own Matt Wilson and Eugene Disney. Both children and adults learned about squid through this hands-on activity!

A note from Kaddee Lawrence, Executive Director

As the end of the year approaches, I've been reflecting on the amazing progress that the MaST Center has made.  We have had record visitorship during Discovery Days, we have robust programs for active citizen scientists to learn about life in Puget Sound, we have ever-increasing requests for school classes to visit for science programs, we have strong community support and interactions through programs and events, and our community realizes that every dime and every dollar donated to the MaST Center goes directly to support those activities that they love.

All of these wonderful accomplishments make the sadness of my departure from the MaST Center a bit easier.  I've been the Executive Director of the Center since 2010, and after 6 years I will be leaving the MaST Center stronger, better connected and ready to serve our community.  It has been my honor and pleasure to serve my community and grow this amazing resource.  I will miss the MaST Center and know that it will continue to grow and be an amazing community resource for a long time into the future.
SUMMER EDUCATION PROGRAM GETS $20K!

The MaST Center's summer education programs recently received an end-of-year donation for $20,000.  The anonymous donor stated that they wanted to support the no-cost educational opportunities that the MaST Center provides for learners of all ages and all backgrounds regardless of their ability to pay.  This generous gift will support Sound Science Summer Camp 2016 as well as multiple mini-camps and the educational collaboration with Des Moines Area Food Bank for activities to support Summer Meals.
