25 November 2015

Kia ora koutou katoa

As you read this I will be at Mt Cook with Room 4. We certainly hope that the glorious weather will be upon us as we enjoy the time.  I'm only joining them for the day, however they are away until Friday. No doubt they will come back after having some wonderful experiences over the three days.  We look forward to sharing some photos with you all next week.

It was great to see the Waitaki Valley students who represented us at the
North Otago Athletics on Monday, experience so much success.  Their results are below.  I'm sure you will agree, that for the number of children who we have in our school we are VERY well represented in the results.  Well done everyone.

Congratulations to our team who represented us at the Otago Athletics in Dunedin last week.  Special mention to Sara Harding who finished 3rd in the 12 year old girls 75m sprint.  This is certainly a great achievement when you consider how many 12 year old girls there are in Otago!

As we look ahead to 2016, teachers are working hard to plan for the use of our learning spaces, so that they can be used in innovative ways, to best meet the needs of our students.  To keep you all informed of our direction for 2016 and beyond we will have a Parent Information Session at school on Wednesday 9th December from 2.30-3pm.  Our wonderful Friends of the School group will be providing you with refreshments.  Please RSVP by phoning the office or following this link: RSVP here

Not only are the teachers planning for 2016, but so too are the Board of Trustees.  Below there is information about a BOT survey that they would like you to complete in order to help us make Waitaki Valley School the best that we can be.  We value parent input and hope that you can all find the time to let us know what you think about different areas of our school.  There are always things to improve on and this will assist us to find out what areas parents want this to happen in.

Just an update on the pool: We are having some trouble with the pumps.  We had hoped to have had it open by now (it would have been a great refresher yesterday!), however our 'Pool Team' of Jim Sutherland and Michael Smith are working hard to ensure that it can be opened as soon as possible.  We will keep you updated.

Our Car Park is to undergo some changes over the next few weeks. The 'bottom' driveway by the gym will be reinstated and this will become the only exit out of the car park.  This will create a one-way flow of traffic through the car park, with the intention to minimise risk for ALL users.  There will also be cones attached to the 'lanes' at the main entrance, and this will direct traffic either into the car park, or out of the drive through area in front of the school.  I know it will be quite straight forward when you see it!  I do ask however that you approach the car park with caution over the next few weeks, as all users get used to the new design.

Our thoughts are with Miss B this week as she recovers from a nasty fall from her horse at the Waimate Show on Saturday.  She will be away for this week, and we hope that she recovers in order to join us again next week.

As you can see there is a lot going on at our school.  Please keep in mind that we are always looking for the best outcomes for our kids.  I hope that you find the time to fill in the Board of Trustees survey and to come to our information afternoon.

Have a great rest of your week

Deidre
