Powerful remains: the continuing presence of victims of the Khmer Rouge regime in todays Cambodia
Presented by: Prof. Helen Jarvis

Abstract
The remains of victims of the Khmer Rouge regime (1975-79) are a constant presence in Cambodia, regarded by survivors as tokens for commemoration and memorialisation, or
presented as evidence of the crimes in the current judicial process, inspiring artistic works in many different forms; and forming instantly recognisable symbols of the genocide. Their treatment continues to be highly controversial, revealing the continuing potency of these remains even today, more than thirty-five years after the victims died.
