New Learning Cohort For Government to Advance Racial Equity in Minnesota

In 2014, The Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) launched a national cohort of jurisdiction at the forefront of racial equity work, including four jurisdictions in the Twin Cities area – Minneapolis, Saint Paul, the Minneapolis Park Board and the Metropolitan Council.

In January 2016, GARE in partnership with The League of Minnesota Cities, will launch a new cohort of governmental jurisdictions that are systemically focusing on advancing racial equity.

Participating jurisdictions will be cities, towns and counties from across Minnesota that make a one-year commitment. In addition, an elected official track will support the engagement and leadership of elected officials in advancing racial equity.

Seattle Builds Equitable Development Into 2035 Comprehensive Plan

Seattle is expected to grow by 120,000 residents and 115,000 jobs in the next twenty years. All too often, economic growth and development does not benefit marginalized communities in an equitable way. However, economic development does not have to come at the expense of equity. The City of Seattle is taking steps to create a more sustainable Seattle for all communities.

The Seattle 2035 Draft Comprehensive Plan is available for public comment through November 2015. The Council will review the plan beginning in December, and adopt the plan in 2016. With racial equity as a driving force, Toward a Sustainable Seattle promises to move the City toward a better future for all communities.
