Tuesday-Wednesday  - “Learning from the existing landscape is a way of being revolutionary for an architect.”
Robert Venturi, Learning from Las Vegas
As architects we do not often have the luxury of clearing away unsightly surroundings and beginning from a tabula rasa; we make our architectural interventions piece-by-piece under existing conditions.  Reuse the Box! is a design studio that begins with an ordinary vacant building in a particular kind of setting.  Ordinary buildings when thoughtfully addressed can create beautiful urban and suburban spaces.  It is our charge (and specifically suited to our expertise) to show communities the potential of our surroundings and to fulfill a role as stewards of the environment, not only in the sense of sustainability but also in the sense of beauty.
Architectural education should always be about imagining possibilities and pushing limits, along with seeing the practical, realizable potential in an existing condition.  Imagination and invention are a necessary part of the architect’s work even in the most pragmatic of situations. picture
Friday - Installation by Chris Pritchett & Alex Bala - Mason Jars and Water. An Invasive Introduction. picture

CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

ASP Virginia Tech
Every other Tuesday (next meeting would be November 17th)
6-7pm
Johnston Student Center North Lounge (above Seattle's Best Coffee)

We are a national non-profit organization that is happens to have a collegiate chapter here at Virginia Tech. We are construction-based, though no prior experience is required. It is an excellent learning opportunity! We go out into the New River Valley to make homes warmer, drier, and safer for those who cannot afford simple repairs or renovations. We frequently work with Habitat for Humanity and Renovate Alliance (they are from Roanoke). We are always looking for students to get involved! Anyone can come to our meetings. facebook
