Opportunities & Notes

 Coffee with the Deans—Weekdays, 9:30-11:30amCoffee with the Deans | HC Café. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, special Honors College mugs will be given to the first 20 students to come for coffee. Bring your Rutgers ID, one per student.   

 Thinking about studying abroad this summer? Applications for the Critical Language Scholarship Program (CLS) are due by Monday, November 23, 7:59pm EST. CLS is part of a US government interagency effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages, as identified by the US Department of State—Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu. Interested candidates should email Dr. Casciato, Director of the Office of Distinguished Fellowships.

Honors College Sponsored Events

Advising and Stress Relief Program—Tuesday, November 17, 5:00-7:00pm | HC S124 and S126. Take a break from webreg and course work with the HC Academic Advisers and Peer Mentors! Get a massage and henna tattoo! Have some snacks! Bring your laptop if you’d like your adviser to review your spring schedule and answer your questions.

Drop-in Advising Hours for Spring Scheduling—Starting Tuesday, November 18 | HC Advising Center. Come during the pre-registration period to talk to an adviser about your schedule—first come, first serve:

  • 11/19—8:00am-6:00pm
  • 11/20—8:00am-5:00pm
  • 11/23—8:00am-5:00pm

Philanthropy 101—Wednesday, November 18, 8:00pm | HC South Lounge & Café. When you think about philanthropy, what comes to mind? This event will break down the myths about fundraising, introduce out-of-the-box ways to get involved, and inspire you to pay it forward yourself! HC Serves credit. Refreshments served.

Honors College Coffeehouse—Thursday, November 19, 8:00pm | Honors College South Lounge & Café. All are welcome, no judgments. Refreshments served. Registration required.

Aresty Research Slam—Thursday, December 3, 6:00pm | HC South Lounge. Hear three-minute (or less!) research presentations by Aresty research assistants, peer instructors, and faculty and learn what they’re working on! Refreshments served.

Rutgers Honors Trip: Barnes Collection and Stedman Gallery—Saturday, December 5. Take a trip through artists alley with the SAS Honors Program and Rutgers Honors College, including the Barnes Collection in Philadelphia, the greatest private collection of post-impressionist and early-modern art, and the Stedman Gallery, part of the Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts. Registration required.

The One and The Same FoundationGeneral Interest Meeting, Tuesday, November 17th, 7:30-8:30 PM | BSC Center Hall. Passionate about advocacy, healthcare, public policy, and international relations? Join a healthcare non-profit started by Rutgers students like yourself! Impact public health on a local and international level while working with university students to build the vision you see for the future! 

 Being Bilingual, Being Multilingual: Film Screening and Discussion of “Speaking in Tongues”—Thursday, November 19, 7:30-9:30pm | College Avenue Student Center, Multipurpose Room. Presented by the GAIA Centers for their International Education Week signature program. A panel discussion will follow with Professor Peter Guarnaccia and several undergraduate student members of Rutgers Lingua who will speak about the important role of being bilingual and multilingual in an increasingly globalized world.  The New Jersey Solar Summit—Tuesday, December 1, 7:00-9:00 pm | Douglass Student Center. Network with leading solar manufacturers, renewable energy consultants, and policy experts. Hear an expert panel discussion with James Cahill, Mayor of New Brunswick; Kate Shackford, Executive Director for GRID Alternatives; Dr. Robert Kopp, Assoc. Director of the Rutgers Energy Institute; Dr. Frank Felder, Director at the Center for Energy, Economic, and Environmental Policy at the Bloustein School; and Dr. Rachael Shwom, Assoc.  Dr. Mazzeo—N103—Open Hours Sundays-Thursdays, 8:00-9:00pm. Family Dinners Select Saturday Nights. Sign up for a spot at the table!

 Dr. Hartman—E241—Open Hours Sundays, 7:00-9:00pm. Crafty Wednesdays, 6:30-9:30pm. Work on a project, get help with a repair, or learn to knit/crochet. All are welcome.
