What does Melissa, the Program Director, do exactly?

Dear <<LGL Salutation>> ,

As Melissa finishes her first year as Program Director for Many Mothers we thought it would be helpful to tell you a little about Melissa and what she does.

Melissa brings a degree in Environmental Education, over a decade of experience facilitating and managing programs, and a life-long passion for her community to her position. She is also a Mom (to a 20 year old currently attending UNM and a 2 year old currently running circles around her) and a native Santa Fean who keeps chickens, turkeys, and goats, and loves growing her own vegetables!

As Program Director, Melissa is responsible for meeting and interviewing all of the families supported by our program as well as all of the volunteers. She provides training and completes background check for all volunteers. The really magical part of her job is matching volunteers and families so that both enjoy the experience. It's obvious from the testimonials we receive that she has a gift for matching!

Melissa also keeps in touch with all of the volunteers and families being supported or soon to be supported on a regular basis. In addition, demographics are tracked and statistics maintained for our funders.

There's so much more to Melissa's position, but I hope this gives you a little peak into what she does daily. Feel free to contact Melissa at melissa@manymothers.org or  (505) 570-5750 if you would like to talk to her about the Many Mothers program.

Volunteers......the heart of our program and key to our success!

This was a wonderful experience all around. I felt honored to be even a small part of this beautiful family's life. They made me feel needed & appreciated, and my interaction with the baby was really fun. I really enjoyed it!! ~ Laura M

The only limit to the number of families we are able to support is the number of volunteers we are able to recruit and train. Many Mothers staff are always recruiting volunteers to ensure there are enough volunteers to provide the best support to families in our community.

Please feel free to share Melissa's contact information with anyone you know who would enjoying volunteering with Many Mothers.

If you are part of a community group that would like to learn about Many Mothers, please let Nancy know. We love to share our mission in the community!

Interested in Volunteering?

Due to the sensitive nature of the work our volunteers do with families, there are a few steps that need to be taken before a volunteer and family match can be made:

  • meeting with Melissa, to discuss your interest, our organization, and how we might best work together
  • committing to supporting each assigned family for 2-3 hours per week for 12 weeks
  • attending our 4 hour Volunteer Training
  • providing three character/work references
  • allowing permission to participate in a national back ground check
Please contact Melissa to begin the process of becoming a Many Mothers volunteer.

Don't have that much time to commit?

Want to help us support families with newborns, but don’t have the time or inclination to support a family? That’s okay because we frequently need help with fundraising events!

Please let us know if you would like to volunteer for a few hours here or there at a fundraiser.
  • Contact us to add you to our list of volunteers who are notified when we need volunteers for an upcoming event.
  • You can also check the event calendar to see what’s coming up and contact us to volunteer.
  • Contact us if you don’t want to volunteer at an event, but have skills to share.
Please contact our Executive Director, Nancy, so we may jointly explore the best possible place in the organization for your skills and interests.
