More Bang For Your Bond at NSW Parliament

Last week, we presented the More Bang For Your Bond petition at a special event in the Jubilee Room of NSW Parliament House. Tenants, Tenant Advocates and Members of Parliament came to voice their support. A dozen MPs attended, from across the political spectrum, plus many other advisers and representatives from legal, community and housing peak organisations.

Speeches of support were given by Dr. Geoff Lee MP (Member for Parramatta, Liberal Party of Australia), David Mehan MP (Member for The Entrance, Australian Labor Party), and Jenny Leong MP (Member for Newtown, Australian Greens). Geoff Lee agreed to raise the issue with Victor Dominello, Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation.

However it was a tenant, Milly, who unquestionably stole the show. She spoke about her experiences as a tenant and the importance of her local Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service. Her speech hit home perfectly on the struggles of so many tenants and highlighted important areas for law reform. Read Millie's speech here.

Thanks for being part of the campaign so far. It's not over yet! We await a response from the NSW Government to our petition, and we'll keep you informed of any developments. In the mean time, start getting ready to take action about the five-year review of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010.
