A nasty head cold, a power outage, and tiring days at work all mean there hasn't been much sewing for me of late. And here we're heading into one of the busiest times of the year. Here's to whatever gives you joy, in the sewing space and out....

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

When I saw M-R/Quilt Matters' scrappy trip quilt Carsick, I was wowed. The use of solids and the conglomerate of palettes are indeed striking. Maybe a bit much for M-R herself, but it definitely made me want to do a throw-back round-up of sorts. And be sure to check out M-R's post and see her creative quilting - it's really special. It was 2013 when I made my own Scrappy Trip straight from my scrap basket of course. The Scrappy Trip Around the World tutorial came courtesy of QuiltvilleIf I remember correctly, it was Katy/imagingermonkey who started the #scrappytripalong on Instagram on January 1 of that year, and it became all the rage. A Scrappy Trip Along flickr group was begun, and it grew to 1200 members strong.
Sarah/[sarahoviatt] mixed in some lovely low-volume prints to give her scrappy trip a sort of glow.
Goodness! Maggie/It's Maggie Made made her scrappy trip in Carolyn Friedlander's Botanics! With her crosshatch grid quilting, it's a beaut. [itsmaggiemade]
Trip around Honshu, made by Michelle/Buttontree Lane, was created from her extensive Japanese/oriental fabric stash. At 84" square, it epitomizes a unique and exotic 'trip.' [michellethequilter]
If you're inspired and want to make one of your own, here's some Scrappy Trip Tips from Anne/Springleaf Studios to get you going. For quilt size options, check out How many Strips Does it Take by Brenda/Just a Bit Frayed. This would be a great project to start in the new year!

IN-STUDIO

Over the last 18 months or so, I've been slowly making improvements in my studio. The most recent is a sewing machine cover that accommodates a thread cone. Other have been making a sturdy ironing board cover, creating a design wall, creating a mailing center, clearing a shelf for rolled quilt storage, improving my cutting and sewing surface, and enlarging my pressing surface. All of these have made my sewing space much more friendly. What's made the difference for you in your own sewing space?

YOU ASKED . . .

Every once in a while, I look to see what folks are pinning from my Pinterest boards. A follower recently asked how I could tell, and I shared this link: https://www.pinterest.com/source/aquilterstable.blogspot.com/.
Just substitute your own blog address for mine, and you can do the same. Not quite sure if the works for other blog types - if you know, clue me in!

P.S. For those of you working on medallion quilts, I've posted an assortment of quilting ideas on the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild website. See if there's anything there that strikes your fancy!
