MIT Climate Updates
Last month MIT released its long-awaited Plan for Action on Climate Change. The Plan outlines many important steps the Institute will take to enhance climate and energy research and education. However, it falls far short of what many community members had hoped for, and what the President's advisory committee recommended in June. The Climate Action Plan released by the MIT administration on October 21st ignores critical recommendations from the President's advisory committee and opts for an ambiguous strategy of industry engagement that lacks a theory of change and moral leadership. Read our full response here.
The Massachusetts state senate held a hearing on October 27th to discuss establishing a state-level price on carbon from sources beyond electric power generation. A number of MIT alumni provided their expertise and perspective in support of this important measure. Read about their testimony here.
Alum Quinton Zondervan reflects on climate accomplishments in the Cambridge area, and how local efforts fit into global policies. Zondervan, a founder of the Boston-based Climate Action Business Association, will attend the international climate summit, which takes place in Paris from November 30 to December 11.
