Why Soulshine? Some define the ultimate aim of Yoga as self-development/self-realization. One could translate this as embodying one’s essence or soul. Another thought is the allowing of one's brightness to shine back to another or beyond as the quintessence of Yoga.

by Dr. Douglas Files,
theYoke Board President

Over time, Yoga has become far more than just exercise for me. A yearning to learn continually leads me to investigate the non-physical aspects. Recently participating in theYoke’s book club allowed me to deepen my understand of what Yoga is as I participated in discussions about the various Yogic paths beyond the mat. My serving as the board president of theYoke allows me to experience yet another option of living Yoga, the karma path. We hope you will become part of theYoke kula and enrich your understanding of Yoga as I am. Personally, I hope you will look at what other Yoga folk are doing in (see the Yogi’s Tea Room of our new site) and be inspired to volunteer and serve those around you.

It's All Yoga
sharing the vision
Every decade unveils a new evolution in Yoga. Sometimes tapping into all the information can feel overwhelming. A common feeling expressed by Yoga students, teachers and program directors, when our founder, LauraLynn Jansen, spends time conversing with folks about the modern Yoga movement (read more about these exchanges). Each month we will reveal different resources, study opportunities and evolving aspects related to the wide, wide world of Yoga.

We start with a basic understanding, the Margas. They are the main paths of living a Yoga based life, according to the Bhagavad Gita and other historical yoga documents. The traditional paths are Karma, Bhakti , Raja and Jnana. If one engages in one or more of these it is said you will reach the ultimate goal of Yoga – “Kaivalya.”  Find out more.
