TROPFEST
TROPFEST: NSW GOVERNMENT TO ASK 'SERIOUS QUESTIONS' AS INDUSTRY REELS FOLLOWING SHORT FILM FESTIVAL'S CANCELLATION
The New South Wales Tourism and Major Events Minister says he will be asking serious questions about why the Tropfest short film festival had to be cancelled. Festival founder John Polson announced that, "Tropfest would not be held this year due to terrible and irresponsible mismanagement of funds." Billed as the world's largest festival of it's kind, Tropfest attracts hundreds of entries and is watched by thousands every year and was due to take place on December 6. The festival's 16 finalists have already been picked, but their names have not been made public. Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said he was taken aback when he found out that the event had been cancelled for financial reasons. The State Government contributes a small amount of funding to the festival, but Mr Ayres played down the chances of the money being significantly boosted. Click Here to read more on ABC News Online

But this isn't your normal box office year for local films. Already, the total box office for local films has broken the all-time record of $63m in a calendar year but the spread of success is the most pleasing aspect of the year.
