December 2015
Greetings, friends!
Hard to believe that 2015 is already drawing to a close. It's been a FULL year for our exciting programs made possible by our generous funders, partners, staff, board, and volunteers! During this season of giving, we hope that you will keep MEarth at the top of your list to make a year-end donation in support of our work. Because of people like YOU, our programs continue to grow!

This past month was no exception, bringing all sorts of inspirational and delicious programs to our community. Our first ever #DIYpie workshop featured the lovely Pastry Chef Yulanda Santos, of Post Ranch Inn, who fearlessly led 25 participants in a hands-on pie making adventure!
One of our workshop participants enthusiastically sent along a lovely note about her newly acquired skills:
"My family has deemed this the "best apple pie ever" and it will be added to my recipe repertoire and brought out for years to come! Many thanks to all, for creating a wonderful (and delicious) experience." - Heather L.
Based on overwhelming positive feedback, #DIYpie will surely become a seasonal tradition at MEarth. Keep your eye out next year!
Mid-November, we were honored to welcome Congressman Sam Farr for a very special event recognizing Carmel Unified School District as the first Ocean Guardian School District in the nation! This initiative, through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), encourages student-led action at school sites to help protect the oceans. A collection of impressive young ocean advocates spoke at the event citing data on the reduction of single-use plastic in their cafeterias and the numbers of native plants planted in their schoolyards. Who knows, one of these articulate youngsters might be vying for a congress seat in a few years. We are so proud to see the next generation leading the way!
We were also thrilled to participate in the annual summit for Girls Health in Girls Hands (GHGH), an important initiative of the Women's Fund at the Community Foundation for Monterey County. GHGH is a collaborative of six local community-based organizations who do life-changing work with young women in our region: Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, Monterey County Health Department-Postpone, Girls Inc. of the Central Coast, Monterey County Rape Crisis Center, and YWCA Monterey County. At the Asilomar summit, we hosted a series of three hands-on workshops for nearly 100 participants, designed to empower girls with skills and knowledge to make quick, healthy, delicious, and replicable foods. So much fun!
It's such a gift to be offering such a wonderful diversity of programs, both at the Habitat property and out in the community. We are grateful to count you as friends and supporters!
May the holidays fill your hearts with joy and peace. Looking forward to what 2016 will bring!
