Hi <<First Name>>,

There is only a week to go until our new opera, The Dead opens in Project Arts Centre.

James Joyce's The Dead is lauded as “one of greatest short stories ever written" by TS Elliot, and "just about the finest short story in the English language” by the New York Times, and this brand new operatic telling of his much-loved story brings the characters and lyricism to life.  Filled with laughter, music and beauty, what better way to get in the Christmas spirit.

Watch these videos to get a peek into the rehearsal room or listen to one of the beautiful tracks from the show.

We have also teamed up with the James Joyce Centre to present a free post show talk.  Professor Anne Fogarty, Professor of James Joyce Studies at UCD will lead a lively conversation with the creative team behind The Dead on stage directly after the performance on Thursday 10 December.

With only 6 performances of this beautiful show in Dublin this Christmas, we advise advance booking to avoid disappointment.  Book your tickets for this festive show now!

About the The Dead

The Performance Corporation is delighted to be working with Breda Cashe to present this exciting new show, and together we have teamed up with some exceptional talent to give James Joyce’s best-loved short story The Dead a thrilling new operatic treatment.

Acclaimed Irish composer Ellen Cranitch (who you may recognise from RTE Lyric FM) and our own, award-winning playwright Tom Swift have created a pared back musical telling of Joyce’s classic story that is by turns theatrical, evocative & moving.

Directed by Jo Mangan, our superb cast (Clare Barrett, Lisa Lambe, Ruth McGill, Rory Musgrave), accompanied by a string quartet conjure the atmosphere of a Christmas party inhabited by Joyce’s vibrant characters.

Our new version taps into the deep vein of musical references running through original story, taking you on journey exploring life, love and death.
