It's that jolly time of the year!

The weather is starting to warm up, shorts have become the norm and the sound of Christmas carols are echoing through the shops. Yep, it's nearly Christmas time again. You either love or hate it, but December is the time to catch up with family and look back at the year that has been, and for us, Thorn-Clarke wines have had a stellar year!

Here is a short list of the achievements we have had this year:

International Wine & Spirit Competition 2015 Trophy for 'Best Shiraz/Syrah of the show' for our 2012 Ron Thorn Shiraz
Top 100/Blue Gold for our Sandpiper Shiraz 2014 and Sandpiper Cabernet 2014 at the Sydney International Wine Competition.
12 wines with 90+ points with James Halliday, and we also retained our Red Star Winery rating.
8 Gold, 11 Silver, 13 bronze medals across our range.

Its been a fantastic year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support and we look forward to bringing you plenty of exciting news in the new year!

A special Christmas message for you

Susie Mickan joins the winemaking team

We are delighted to anounce that Susie Mickan has joined the Thorn-Clarke team as our new Senior Winemaker. She brings to Thorn-Clarke a wealth of experience having completed 29 vintages across both the southern and northern hemispheres since graduating as a winemaker in 1991 from Adelaide University’s Roseworthy Campus.

Prior to joining Thorn-Clarke Susie was most recently with Pernod Ricard where she held several senior roles in Red, White and Sparkling Winemaking. Susie also worked as the Senior Winemaker with Pernod Ricard’s Spanish (Domecq Bodegas) and Chinese (Helan Mountain) wineries during this time. Prior to working with Pernod Ricard Susie worked as a Winemaker with well known Australian producers including Taylors, Penfolds, St Hallett and Wirra Wirra. Susie is 6th generation Barossan, and has been a vineyard owner in the past.

Vineyard Update

The season has pushed past Spring and into Summer, and the vineyards are continuing to race through the growth stages at a great pace. Flowering and fruit set were all early, pushed by warmer than usual temperatures and unfortunately also by drier than usual conditions. Indications are however that a good crop has set across most varieties and the bunches are noticeably large which is encouraging for a good vintage!

To date, we have escaped damage from the numerous frost events associated with the dry start, and on the other side the conditions have meant the vines are not under any disease pressure. All good at the half-way point.

Cellar Door Platters now available!

We are now selling delicious platters in Cellar Door. For $30 you can get yourself a large selection of locally sourced meats and cheese together with an assortment of accompaniments. You can enjoy them in our cellar door or out in our wonderful gardens and why not enjoy a glass of our fabulous range of wines available for purchase with your platter.

Platters are available Friday to Sunday, but if you call up and book, we would be more than happy to make one up fresh for you during the week.
