Success at the iNetwork Awards
Wigan Council won the Outstanding Contribution Award at iNetwork's annual Innovation Awards evenings on 18 November in Manchester. The finalists in each category joined chief officers, members of the Network Leadership Groups and Executive Board members in celebrating some of the remarkable work being delivered by colleagues despite tightening budgets.

"We can't tell you how delighted and proud we were to receive the award. We have been working hard to re-think public services and there couldn't be a more important time for iNetwork to support us all in finding new ways to radically reform our approach." Alison McKenzie-Folan, Deputy Chief Executive at Wigan Council.

With seven awards, 50 entries, 1,400 votes, 21 judges and 130 for dinner, this year's awards have been hard work and a huge thank you to everyone who nominated, judged, contributed and supported.

Delivering through Devolution
A record number of speakers, delegates and supporters attended iNetwork's winter conference "Delivering through Devolution" which was jointly organised with the Public Service Transformation Network and the NHS Advancing Quality Alliance.

With seven strands of activity running in parallel and a general buzz throughout the day, the overall objective of the event - to create space to share, connect and be inspired - felt achieved.

"iNetwork is invaluable in helping us identify what is happening out there!  Without them there would be little opportunity for learning, networking and engaging with partners on some of the challenging areas of work we all face." Jenny Spiers, Information Governance Manager, Pennine Care NHS FT and NHS England

The seminar presentations are now available to download.
Feature
Digital – a critical enabler of collaboration and devolution

At “Delivering through Devolution” EY hosted two sessions to share short, focused insights into the impact and opportunity presented by digital in a devolution context. Chief Superintendent Tim Forber, Business Change Lead for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and GMP’s IS Transformation Programme provided an overview of the Force’s experience of engaging leadership around the Digital agenda.

The session was of particular value to those organisations contemplating or having started on Digital Transformation journey and wishing to gain ideas and insights as to how to fully exploit the opportunities provided by Digital. For those that missed these sessions there is a link here to a short piece by EY summarising the key characteristics of digital organisations.
Spending Review 2015
Simply put, local public services need to accelerate the transition from a reactive "vending machine model" to one that is based on early intervention & prevention, being digital & integrated and delivering "with" not "to".

We will be digesting the Chancellor's statement at December's Network Leadership Group meetings and Executive Board, but we will have to wait for the details to know how it really stacks up. However, despite the 2% precept option for social care, the retention of business rates and the increase in Better Care Fund, the reduced DWP funding and reduction in revenue support grant will force difficult decisions on already pressured local government services.

The knock ons are already evident and whilst NHS colleagues have less immediate bad news they still have a £22 billion efficiency gap to close. We will be continuing to encourage cross agency collaboration as it is such a rich source of improvement.

The housing sector is facing up to set of new challenges particularly regards their stock ownership, building pace and the fallout from local government cuts. And whilst the police have had a partial reprieve, colleagues there are seeing demand shift towards them from local government as evidenced by the statistics on anti-social behaviour, abuse and mental health related work. What we've got planned will, we hope, help.
New joiner: Louis Stockwell, Communications and Engagement Lead

Louis has joined the iNetwork team to improve communications across the iNetwork and iStandUK programmes.
Please introduce yourself when you see him as he's on a steep learning curve!
