Happy Thanksgiving.
Getting the hang of parenting. Updates from our ministry. The book is nearly here. And how you can be part of all this.
Everyday we fall more in love with our little Ruby. Although our lives have and will be forever changed, it is a change that we both have anxiously awaited. Beyond the pure joy of parenthood, there is something profound about bringing your child into a life and community that we know we are called to participate in. We believe that one of our primary parental responsibilities is to live and model a life that we would want our children to emulate; a life that takes the dreams of God’s Kingdom seriously and makes bold strides to live them out in our daily life. Being part of NieuCommunities in Golden Hill continues to affirm God’s call on our lives.
As a ministry whose primary mission is to train and send missional Church leaders for the work of the Kingdom, this past month has been especially invigorating. We have taught/shared our experiences in the Middle East in relation to our study of Acts; committed to staff a local community center/after school program as a way to build bridges to the families of our neighborhood; experienced rich mentoring; waded through some intense curriculum/testing that focuses on individual vocational discernment; said goodbye to one of the couples who completed their year apprenticeship and is heading to Indonesia as entrepreneurs and missionaries among the Muslim’s; and hosted an alternative neighborhood celebration of the Mexican holiday “Dia De Los Muertes.” Amid all of the action has been the development of rich relationships among our community of leaders and among the individuals of our neighborhood who so desperately need the love of Jesus.
As many of you know, Jon has had the unique opportunity to get his first book published through Zondervan/Youth Specialties (view here: Amazon.com). It is geared towards youth workers and has great potential to encourage, challenge and introduce others to the redemptive Story of God. While it would be easy to assume that being a published author means financial security, that simply isn’t the case (unfortunately!). Any income (which for a project of this kind is not very much) we make will be put directly towards paying down Jon’s Seminary loans and will not fund our monthly budget.
With that said, we are so grateful for those of you that have stepped into this story by partnering with us financially. We are currently about 35% funded and are in immediate need of financial partnership. If you would be willing to pray about supporting us as part of a year end write-off or monthly commitment, we would be grateful for your stepping onto the team. Please use the "Partner With Us" link if you are able to commit to us and our ministry; monthly commitments are optimum, but any gift will be very much appreciated! Thank you!
