Commenting on the findings, Survation's Chief Executive Damian Lyons Lowe said:
"Extending airstrikes “now” against IS to Syria - in addition to the UK’s current Iraq involvement - was backed by 48% to 30% in tonight's poll, however the public remain cautious on the UK’s role in the region in response to recent atrocities.
49% to 29% of the public agreed diplomatic and non-military solutions should be pursued before committing the UK further than Syrian airstrikes.
The public are against putting British boots on the ground “now” by 2:1 - supporting British ground force involvement “if necessary at some point in the future” by just a small margin – 43% to 36%
One quarter agreed the UK should pull out of Military involvement in the Middle East completely and a by a more than 3 to 1 ratio agreed that “British air strikes against IS in Syria would increase the risk of a terror attack here in the UK”
David Cameron clearly has work to do convincing the public of his assertion that intervention would indeed make the UK safer."
