Notre Dame AD Swarbrick was asked about the conference alignment for Fighting Irish FB after last night's close loss to Stanford presumably knocked them out of College FB Playoff contention, "I know there have been some people who have speculated that this is creating pressure on us to give up independence. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We are as comfortable with the benefits for the university of independence as we have ever been." A lot of people like to think 'If we just make this change...' but there are a lot of these large pieces in place that make it harder to move." - link
Illinois awarded Interim FB HC Cubit with a two-year deal, Interim AD Kowalczyk, "The university is in a situation with interim tags on a lot of different people. The feeling was, it would be best for a permanent AD to make a decision, someone of their choosing. This will help us get us where we to need to be in order to make that decision...Obviously, it’s not ideal. But for now, I don’t think it will put a dagger in the heart of the program. In this year's bowl season at least two & as many as five 5-7 squads will reach the post-season, so there's work to be done by the NCAA Football Oversight Committee this week on determining the pecking order, Pac-12 Commish Scott, "I didn't love 6-6 teams being allowed to go to a bowl let alone 5-7," Big Ten & Big 12 will both have fewer teams eligible than the number of their tie-ins, Football Bowl Association Executive Director Waters says bowls want the 5-7 entries to be as close as possible to the location of the game - link
The FBS regular season ended for a number of programs yesterday & HC spots start to fill: All indications point to Memphis HC Fuente heading to Virginia Tech where DC Foster & AHC Beamer will stay on staff, AD Babcock says nothing is official, Fuente after the Tigers win over SMU, "There’s a time to address those things, and that’s not right now." Arkansas AD & College FB Playoff selection committee Chair Long had five screens going yesterday to keep up with all the action, three large mounted TVs, plus two computers, sent a picture of his setup via Twitter & kept the title for his camp general neutral as a "Person Cave," no remote controls in sight, so the solution to changing one TV without the other two also moving is still a mystery - link

This is kinda cool, LaSalle MBB played a true road game at DIII Rowan yesterday in a move to celebrate the 1996 National Championship won by HC Giannini when he led the Profs program, Explorers ended up winning 81-51 in the first meeting between the two schools, Rowan is seen by some around college athletics as likely to make the transition from DIII up to DI at some point in the future, Giannini, "This was a great way to get attention for one of the spectacular and fastest-growing universities in the country" - link
