Join WKMA for the annual Elves Workshop!
Spend an afternoon with your family making holiday ornaments from the Victorian time period. Throw on some festive garb for our photo booth and enjoy some delicious treats!

Bring your friends and favorite beverage, and enjoy a fun evening while exploring the process of mixed-media and collage. Through step-by step instruction students will learn to combine the techniques of layering, painting, stamping, tape transfers to create one-of-a kind works of art. Supplies included.

Learn the Appalachian craft of wood burning with Pygrography artist, Lillian Minix. The December class of the series of two-hour workshops will focus on woodburning and watercolor. Future topics will include handmade font, Victorian silhouette portraiture, and trees of life. All experience levels are welcome. 8 student maximum. Ages 15 & up.

($35 if you supply your own woodburner)

This class will introduce basic techniques in book-making. You will create a coptic-stitched book that can be used as a journal, photo album or you can create your own “Art Book.”  Step by step, students will create their own book-block and cover the front and back covers with hand-made paper then complete the book by hand-stitching the spine.  Please join us for creative evening inspired by the ancient craft of book-making.

Our Spirited Art class will be painting a winter scene suitable for gift giving or as a holiday decoration. Create your own 16X20 canvas in a relaxed and creative atmosphere. Step by step instructions with no painting experience needed. Bring a friend and your favorite beverage and/or snack.

Learning Through Seeing

Fall 2015 / Winter 2016 After-School Art Camp Series

Join us for a series of after-school art camps that will utilize the exhibitions on view at the William King Museum of Art as an exploratory way of connecting the process of seeing and creating.


Ages: 6-12
Cost: $75 per student, $60 for each additional sibling
Register for all 3 camps and receive $20 off!

 

 

Schools of Thought After-School Camp
December 14–18
Time: 4–5:30 p.m.

Utilizing the rich visual resource of the paintings within the exhibition Schools of Thought, students will spend the week learning about the relationship between seeing and creating, as well as the role of the artist as observer. Projects will include: still-life, drawing and painting from nature, portraiture, as well as drawing within galleries.
 

Contemporary Art After-school Camp
January 11–15
Times: 4–5:30 p.m.

What is contemporary art? How does it help us to gain a greater understanding of our material world? Students will create artwork using alternative materials and processes, while engaging with the contemporary art exhibition From These Hills. Students will experiment with drawing/printmaking techniques, installation art, text-based and large-scale work.
