Peak Pioneer ~ December 7, 2015

Last week, Division III students visited University of Colorado in Boulder and Colorado School of Mines in Golden to familiarize themselves with the college touring process. Students learned a lot about what to look for in a college visit, plus they were way into the ice cream...

A letter from the Head of School:

Dear Parents:

This is a really busy week at Peak in terms of special events – our school calendar is about as full as your personal calendars this time of year.

The most important event this week is our Holiday Potluck Dinner – on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 6:00pm. This great Peak tradition is a wonderful way for us all to join together, and enjoy each other’s company over platters of great food. This event strengthens bonds of friendship and remind us how important community is to the success of The Peak School. I look forward to seeing all of you there.

Also on Wednesday, at 8:15am, I will be hosting a Casual Coffee discussion about the transition from Middle to Upper School at Peak. Parents of 8th grade students in particular will want to hear about the differences between the Middle and Upper School programs at Peak, and the advantages of a Peak education as compared with SHS. If you missed the previous Casual Coffee a few weeks ago on this topic, I hope you’ll be able to join us on Wednesday. All parents are invited to participate in this conversation.

The bi-monthly Board of Trustees meeting will be on Friday, Dec. 11 from 8:00 – 10:00am in the Conference Room at Peak. All are invited to hear my report and the reports of the chairs of the various board committees, and share your thoughts about school programs and policies with the governing body of the school.

Looking ahead a bit, please save Thursday, January 7 from 5:00-7:00pm for the annual State of the School meeting. This all-community event at the halfway point in the year is an opportunity to review the program of the past semester as experienced by students, parents, and teachers, and look ahead to the expectations for the coming semester. It is also a time to view the progress of the school as an institution, with details and discussion about the important and interrelated topics of the budget, finances, and enrollment. This is the meeting to get information about and voice your opinions on all aspects of the school. Refreshments will be served. Please save the date; a reminder will be sent when we return from winter break.

You all received an email with a follow-up letter via post about the launch of this year’s Peak Fund. I want to emphasize that it is critically important that we meet our target of $200,000; we can do it only if each and every family contributes as much as they can. Thanks to 100% contributions from the board and the faculty & staff, we’re off to a great start – we’ve raised almost one-quarter of the target amount already. We need most of the money by February; and there’s only a few weeks left to get a deduction on your 2015 taxes. For both reasons, please give generously before the end of the year.

See you at the Potluck Dinner on Wednesday!

Best,

Shop to Support Peak

As you begin to assemble your holiday shopping list, keep The Peak School in mind when you shop! Here are a couple of ways you can give back to Peak through your Holiday (and everyday) Shopping!

Amazon Smile
Peak is a beneficiary of Amazon Smile and receives donations when you shop! Asmile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization (The Peak School). On your first visit to AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), you need to select a charitable organization to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping. We will remember your selection, and then every eligible purchase you make at smile.amazon.com will result in a donation.

Target
Through the Take Charge of Education program, Target donates an amount equal to 1% of RED card(SM) (Target Visa and Target Card) purchases made at Target and Target.com, and 1/2% of Target Visa purchases made elsewhere, to The Peak School. For some schools, that’s over $10,000 a year. Just visit target.com/tcoe or call 1-800-316-6142 to designate The Peak School. Our school ID# 152777 To top it all off, you save 5% everyday on purchases at Target and Target.com when you use the REDcard. Apply in store or online.

City Market
Apply for a City Market Value Card, then register your card by clicking here: https://www.citymarket.com/topic/community/#/city-market-community-rewards.
