It's Giving Tuesday Today!

It's Giving Tuesday!! What's Giving Tuesday you ask?

#GivingTuesdayCa is a global day of giving. After the sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday is a time to celebrate and encourage activities of making a donation, volunteering time, helping a neighbour or spreading the word, in support of charities and non profits.

This past Black Friday this is what Julie Seath wrote on Facebook:

"I have spent years and years of my life looking for the best deal, the greatest bargain, how much bang I could get for my buck. I looked through sale rack after sale rack, for ways to "save money". I often would end up spending more because it was all such a great deal. Trevor used to say, "Julie, you're going to "save" us right into bankruptcy". I would find myself being defensive and give the excuse that I had children to clothe!

On this Black Friday, I realize that over the last few years I have lost the desire to spontaneously spend on stuff I don't need. I find myself no longer wanting to bend to our society's push of consumerism. I try hard to think more often of the difference between my needs and my wants, being able to use my Malawian friend's needs and wants as an example.

Today I think of my friends in Malawi who will have no food for themselves or their children until next April's harvest, due to the drought of this past season. My heart cries out for our friends with nothing. And my heart hurts as I think of the news of past Black Fridays where people have been trampled at the mall over stuff to fill their homes with, in the hopes of filling their hearts at the same time.

Will you spend a moment with me reflecting on what we have, what we need, what we want, and those who don't have an option to think on these things?"

Christmas Gift!

Do you have someone on your list who is hard to buy for or already has everything? Consider giving them a gift of hope for someone else who doesn't have anything. The person on your list may not need food or shelter or a toilet. But there are people in Malawi, whom we are helping, who DO need these things. Consider giving your loved one the gift of helping someone else.

Over the next 5 years Love a Village will be helping to reduce poverty in the community of Luhomero, and increase their independence and self-sufficiency in the following ways:

  • Clean water - bore holes and household water filters
  • Food Security - fruits, veggies, livestock, forestation, and fertilizer
  • Health & Hygiene - toilets and wash stations, and girls hygiene classes
  • Education - tuition scholarships, school supplies, and life skills training
  • Basic Shelter - new construction, repair, tin roof installations

Your Christmas Gift donation can help accomplish this!

Your friend or family member will receive a lovely Christmas donation gift card from Love a Village.

$20, $50, $100 might not feel like a lot here in Canada, but it will go a very long way in Malawi.

These beautiful children are singing a song they have just made up.
It is one of deep thanks (taonga chomeni)
Simply, for the stickers we were about to give them.
The gratitude of these children is overwhelming to experience,
when you feel what you are giving them is so small.
But it isn't small to them. It is a gift.
An expression of, "I love you and I care about you."
