2015-2016 theme verse:

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.  -  Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)

Charleston Food Drive helping Lowcountry Food Bank

Pictured at Lowcountry Food Bank’s collection site in the Charleston learning center, from left, are Jovena Mouzone, admissions coordinator; Dean Grile, SWU’s senior director of recruitment services; and Leigh Thomson, admissions coordinator.
SWU Charleston is hosting a food drive at the learning center to help reduce childhood hunger in the Lowcountry. Many children are fed through school programs during the school year and go hungry during the holidays. SWU Charleston will waive the application fee for new students who donate and current students will compete to see which class brings in the most food. In support of these efforts, SWU will recognize the winning class with a pizza party. Contact Grile at ext. 5635 for details.

Meeting Entrepreneurs

SWU business students recently presented a marketing plan for Gotta Run, a chain of running specialty shops in the Upstate. Chip Rouse (right) and Chris Disbrow (background left) of Gotta Run discuss marketing with some of the students.

Amanda Grace Endowed Scholarship

Southern Wesleyan University is establishing a scholarship in memory of Amanda Grace Blackburn, who was tragically killed recently. Head Baseball Coach Mike Gillespie has been working with Davey Blackburn, Amanda’s husband and a SWU alumnus, to establish the Amanda Grace Endowed Scholarship.
“It has been amazing to witness the strong faith that Davey has in the midst of this tragedy and to also see firsthand the amount of support his former teammates have provided during the loss of Amanda,” Gillespie said. â€œSetting up the endowed scholarship in her memory has received so much interest from not just Davey’s teammates, but also all of our baseball alums. It has truly been the epitome of a band of brothers coming together in a time of need. That’s the true Warrior spirit!”
For details, contact SWU’s Advancement Office at ext. 5006.

Salmon is the most amazing fish. It is born in fresh water, spends a good portion of its life in the open sea, only to swim back hundreds of miles to return to it's birthplace in order to spawn. Salmon are so smart; That’s why they are considered a “brain food.” Avoid farmed fish - these are  generally  weaker fish that would not  have that beautiful red color (wild salmon’s red coloring is  due to it’s consumption of  krill)  if not for the synthetic version of astaxanthin  they are being fed. Salmon is prized for it’s exceptionally high content of omeg-3 fatty acids. Wild Alaskan salmon also tends to be one of the cleanest sources of fish, typically containing the lowest levels of heavy metals and pesticide residues. Eat salmon. Your brain will thank you!
