Stoddard Global Care at Washington Center for Aging Services - LeadingAge DC Visit
As one of LeadingAge DC's newest members, Stoddard Global Care at Washington Center for Aging Services had the opportunity to learn about LeadingAge and LeadingAge DC.  On November, 18th, Christy Kramer, Director, visited the community and spoke to the Leadership Team about the many resources available from LeadingAge.  LeadingAge DC will be making more member visits in the begining of 2016.  Please email Christy Kramer at ckramer@leadingage.org if you would like to schedule a visit.

2016 Professional Development Calendar
The 2016 Professional Development calendar is exciting.  The first event of the new year is the C-Suite Discussion on the Future of Aging Services Leadership.  This  not to miss event that will bring together current and future leaders in the aging field. Register here .  In February, there will be a Regulatory Update with representatives from DC agencies and LeadingAge who will provide updates on local and national policy/regulations. In addition, in April, Jim Kinsey of Plantree will be providing a Leadership Intensive on Resident-Centered Care that will focus on mid-level leaders and above.  Check the LeadingAge DC events calendar as we continue to add information.

District of Columbia Update
  • Public Round Table on Senior Services in the District of Columbia. On Thursday, December 17, 2015, Councilmember Anita Bonds, Chairperson of the Committee on Housing & Community Development, will hold a public roundtable on Senior Services in the District of Columbia. The roundtable will take place in Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., at 10:00 a.m. Read More
  • Health Care Decisions Act of 2015.  - The full council had the first reading of the bill on November 3, 2015 with all Council Members voting in favor.  All of the LeadingAge DC positions were incorporated into the new version of the bill was was read on November 3, 2015.  Read More  
  • LGBTQ Cultural Competency Continuing Education Amendment Act of 2015
    A hearing was held on October 28, 2015 regarding this act.  Dr. Nesbitt testified on behalf of DOH. Read More
  • Universal Paid Leave Act of 2015 - Public Hearing will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd at 10:00 am.  Read More
  • Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable Act of 2015 - As introduced, this bill requires hospitals to provide patients or their legal guardian an opportunity to select a caregiver within twenty-four hours of admission to the hospital. The hospital must record the contact information for the caregiver and consult with the caregiver at least twenty-four hours before discharging the patient. Read More

  • LeadingAge National Members Meet with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro 
    • A group of LeadingAge housing members and staff met with HUD Secretary Julian Castro in late October to discuss issues important to America’s elderly population. Read More
  • Get Ready: Overtime Threshold Rule Coming in 2016 
    • The U.S. Department of Labor’s final rule on overtime eligibility won’t go into effect until late 2016. This rule would increase the salary cap for who is eligible for overtime pay from $23,600 per year to $50,400 per year and automatically increase it every year to prevent the level from becoming outdated.   • CMS Finalizes Hospital-Centric Bundled Payment Model for Hip, Knee Replacements
    • CMS released its final bundled payment model for hip and knee replacement surgeries, which includes plans to waive the three-day stay rule for beneficiaries entering qualified SNFs. Read More
  • Potential increases in CMPs (Provided by Barbara Gay, LeadingAge National)
    • A provision of the Bipartisan Budget Act, now law, could increase CMPs levied under the Occupational Safety and Health Act and OBRA '87's Nursing Home Reform Act. Section 701 of the budget measure allows these CMPs to increase according to changes to the Consumer Price Index between 1990 and 2015, with increases to be capped at 150%. Read More
