KAPITI COLLEGE INTERNATIONAL NEWSLETTER  NOVEMBER 2015

Greetings everyone,

Term four is nearly over and the year is drawing to a close.  Here are some news events to help you with your marketing.

Prize Giving and Graduation

Recently we held our senior prize-giving in our new school gym.  It was a wonderful evening with so many students gaining recognition for their hard work.  International students won both the top year 12 and year 13 mathematics prizes.  Many international students graduated and will now move on to tertiary study.

International Ball

We recently held our annual International Ball where more than 150 kiwi and international students enjoyed a live band and an international supper.  It was a great evening and everyone dressed up so well.  The girls looked absolutely beautiful in their dresses and the boys very handsome in their suits.

International Dinner

Every year we host an International Dinner to say thank you to the host families.  All of the families gather and we have a meal together.  Then some of the students entertain us with musical items and others give speeches thanking families and the school for all they have done for them.  It was a wonderful evening.

International Trip to Taupo, Rotorua and Hobbiton

Every year we organise a trip for international students not sitting NCEA.  This year Ms Hainsworth and Mr Seymour took sixteen students on the trip.  They had a lot of fun and many said it was the highlight of their stay in New Zealand, especially their visit to Hobbiton, the Lord of the Rings movie set.

Thailand Trip

Fifteen kiwi students recently arrived in Thailand to participate in a two week trip.  First they were hosted by Pibulwitthayalai School in Lopburi and then by St Dominic School in Bangkok.  They were treated like princes and princesses by their host families.  They finished their tour with two nights in a Bangkok riverside hotel.

Golfing Success

One of our new arrivals is Champ Ratanakarn, who is here to improve his golf and is part of the Kāpiti College golf academy.  He is under the expert guidance of Kevin Smith (he has coached the NZ women's golf team) at the Paraparaumu Golf Club - ranked in the top 100 links courses in the world.

Recently he competed in a qualifying tournament in order to gain a place in the Paraparaumu interclub team – and succeeded!
He hopes to become a professional golfer and make a living from the sport – he is well on his way to reaching that goal (he is playing off a 5 handicap).  Champ comes from a golfing family in Bangkok where both his parents and siblings regularly play.  He will be with us for the next three years before returning to Thailand.
