Stifling THAT child, Stifling the Whole World

A teacher or social worker sees a student. Let’s say he is black or Mexican or from the Middle East. Or maybe she has a big nose or is slightly overweight or has fiery red hair. Instantaneously snap judgments are made based on preconceived bias about certain groups of people. Maybe they are based in fear.

Can we live simply ever After?

Have you ever watched those survival type TV shows where people have to survive on the bare minimum in the wild? Most of them will come out of such experiences with a new perspective on what’s really important in life and how most of the stuff we do and participate in, really doesn’t add value or support life /living in any way. And yet – how many of them actually follow through on implementing these fresh perspectives in the form of huge life changes? I daresay very few.

Life Isn’t Supposed to be this Hard

I have had many conversations with people, mostly people who are in low-paying jobs without much prospects for advancement, conversations about life. The thing that everyone agrees on is that life shouldn’t be this hard. Sometimes someone might say something like “I don’t know what we can do, maybe just pray harder.”

Live Hangouts

This weeks Live Hangout:

An Argument for Anarchist Creativity

“No matter how hard authority tries to maintain the status quo, human creativity always eludes it and breaks new ground” - Mark Corske

Why does Human Creativity hold the greatest potential to create a better world? What can we learn from the Dutch Anarchist movement Provo with its principles of rebelling against authority as a form of non-violent revolution? How can resistance and rebellion assist in demolishing the old schemes in society? What role does art and creativity play in challenging the current political paradigms? We will be discussing this and more on Anarchist Creativity with Mark Corske, writer of Engines of Domination in a sequel to our previous discussion.

Join us Every Sunday at 19:00 UCT  for a Live Google #Hangout where we will be discussing the Basic Income Guaranteed proposal by the Equal Life Foundation.
