Report reveals councils' contribution to local economies

Scottish councils make a substantial contribution to local economies, spending over £220m on economic development activities, according to the annual overview of Scottish councils’ economic development work.
 
The 2014/15 SLAED Indicators Report, the third annual report, shows that, as the lead organisations for local economic development, Scotland’s councils are making a substantial contribution both in relation to their local economies and in delivering the aims of Scotland’s Economic Strategy.

Scottish Borders Leader named Politician of the Year

David Parker, Leader of Scottish Borders Council (pictured, right), has been named Scottish Local Politician of the Year 2015.
 
The accolade was awarded at The Herald Scottish Politician of the Year Awards on 19 November 2015.

Customer Service Professional partnership commended at education awards

The Customer Service Professional (CSP) qualifications have been highly commended at the SQA STAR Awards 2015.
 
The annual SQA STAR Awards celebrate success in education and training. CSP, a set of customer service qualifications for council employees, was a finalist in the Partnership of the Year category.

This series of notebooks provides information and guidance for people sitting on Community Planning Partnership (CPP) Boards.

Developed by the IS in consultation with CPPs, the notebooks are designed to meet the varied needs and roles of different CPP Board members. They are likely to be of most use to Board members who are new to the role rather than those with more experience.

The focus of the masterclass will be to support elected members to:

  • Interpret the benchmarking data and understand it in relation to local contexts and council performance
  • Link benchmarking to recommendations and action plans for service improvements

This one day event examines this challenging and complex area and provides an opportunity to discuss key issues and provide feedback to Scottish Government as they prepare new advice to support the delivery of infrastructure across Scotland.

The event will open with a review of the Planning for Infrastructure Research Paper by Fiona Clandillon of Rydens and Scottish Government officers responsible for preparing the new advice will be in attendance.
