A JOLLY DECEMBER

The AdamBots have had a relaxing and cheerful December as preparations for the 2016 FIRST season continued. Our team walked in the annual Rochester Holiday Parade with robotics teams from Rochester High School and Stoney Creek High School. After students interviewed for leadership positions on the team, student team leaders were selected to run each of the engineering and business sub-teams. The team also spread some holiday cheer by baking homemade cookies for senior citizens at Avon Towers. The team is looking forward to the FIRST 2016 Kickoff, which will be streamed live online at 10 am on January 9th! Happy New Year, and thank you for reading our newsletter!

SEASON UPDATE

The AdamBots had two major events this December. First, we walked in the annual Rochester Holiday Parade on December 6th along with the FEDS, from Rochester High School, and the CyberCats, from Stoney Creek High School. The AdamBots received two police robots, Sarge and Sarge 2, from the Rochester Police Department at the beginning of the school year, and engineering team members and mentors refurbished the robots so they could be used in the parade. The robots were decorated to fit the theme of Frosty the Snowman, and students marched alongside them carrying banners and candy canes. The teams had fun marching in the parade and were able to raise awareness of STEM and FIRST.

Additionally, after interviewing for leadership positions, the student leaders for the engineering and business sub-teams were announced. Congratulations to all the team leaders! Student leadership is valuable to the experience of building the FIRST robot, and leading allows the students and mentors to form the important professional and personal partnerships that are the cornerstone of the FIRST mission.

The AdamBots are looking forward to the reveal of the 2016 game, which will occur on January 9th at 10 am. The link to the live broadcast will be on the FIRST websiteFIRST Robotics Competition teams around the globe will have a six week build season to design, fabricate, and test a robot based on this game before competitions begin. We are excited for the challenges this season will bring!

SPREADING HOLIDAY CHEER

The AdamBots were recently given the opportunity to spread holiday cheer by delivering homemade cookies to residents of Avon Towers. Team members and mentors signed up to bake cookies over the past few weeks, and AdamBot Ashley Del Rose and mentor Michele Del Rose packaged the cookies with holiday greetings from the AdamBots and CyberCats. Although donations of only 25 dozen cookies were expected, our team baked 53 dozen cookies for senior citizens who did not have a place to be this holiday season. The AdamBots and CyberCats are very pleased to be able to give back to the community by spreading holiday cheer!
