Happy New Year, NECHA!
Ryan Travia, MEd
NECHA President
The Board of Directors just met for its winter meeting at Babson College on January 6.  We had a productive meeting, covering a range of topics including debriefing the Combined Annual Meeting in Albany, discussing the 2016 Annual Meeting in Newport, RI (November 2-4), establishing the selection committees for NECHA Awards, and reviewing our financials.

I want to inform our membership that due to budgetary reasons, the board has decided to forego the offering of a NECHA grant in 2016. This was not a decision we made lightly, but in striving to be responsible stewards of our limited resources, we believe that this decision, along with other cost savings measures, is in the best financial interest of the organization. The NECHA grant will be reassessed in 2017.

Be on the lookout for more updates regarding awards, the Annual Meeting and more over the next few months.  On behalf of the board of directors, we are delighted to work with you this year to support your efforts in college health and look forward to seeing many of you in Newport!

Awards, Awards, Awards!
The next few months are full of great opportunities to recognize exceptional colleagues for their work and dedication. Please take time to nominate and celebrate!
NECHA Presidents Award: The Presidents Award recognizes the contributions to College Health by an individual working in the field from the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont. Along with a nomination form, written letters of support make up to process for nomination. The annual NECHA President's Award is the highest honor given to a deserving colleague within the Association.
NECHA Louise Gazzara Award: This award honors a college health nurse who has made outstanding contributions to her/his college or university, the profession and/or NECHA. For consideration, nominees need not be an ACHA individual member, but must currently work in college health.
ACHA Affiliate New Professional Award: This award is designed for ACHA members who have provided service to the field of college health for 5 years or less and who has made significant contributions to their institution and/or affiliate.  A letter of nomination and at least one additional letter of support is required. Submissions are to be sent to NECHA President Ryan Travia by Friday, January 22

Meet the Board:
Charles Morse,
MA, LHMC
New to the Board in 2016 —please meet Charles C. Morse, MA, LHMC, Asst. Dean for Student Development and Director of Counseling at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Development & Counseling Center. We are delighted to have Charles join the Board; he looks forward to meeting everyone at our Annual Meeting in November!

Charlie was encouraged to submit a couple of mental health programs for the NECHA 2012 Annual Meeting in Portland. He gladly agreed and was so warmly welcomed that he now makes the NECHA Annual Meeting a recurring event on his calendar! Since his debut as a presenter, he has come to appreciate the many differing perspectives, rich conversations, and most importantly, the sustaining connections that he’s formed within the college health community. As a newly elected board member, he is thrilled to have the opportunity to pay forward the support and engagement he’s come to appreciate within NECHA!
