NEWS AND STORIES FOR THIS MONTH
Call for papers on Living Labs for OpenLivingLab Days 2016 now open
We are pleased to announce that our annual call for papers on Living Labs is now open and this year includes a special collaboration with the Technology Innovation Management Review (TIM Review) in order to offer the best papers submitted to OpenLivingLab Days the opportunity to be published in a special TIM Review dedicated to Living Labs. Deadline for submission: 11th April 2016 with the Research Day at OpenLivingLab Days taking place on 23rd August 2016. More details, topics and submission information can be found here.
Join the largest community committed to citizen driven innovation. Join the 10th Wave of ENoLL!
ENoLL counts today over 170 active Living Labs members worldwide (395 historically recognised over 9 years). Public and private organisations from across the world actively committed to engaging and empowering users and citizens to take part in sustainable innovation processes are invited to apply for membership of the European Network of Living Labs as a part of the 10th Wave. Read more about the process & criteria for 10th Wave membership here. Completed applications must be sent by March 8th, 2016 at 12:00 CET.
3rd Connected Smart Cities Conference, 21st January in Brussels
Organised in Brussels on January 21st, 2016, the 3rd edition of the Connected Smart Cities Conference is developed to support the Open & Agile Smart Cities initiative (OASC) and to stimulate debate and share perspectives on smart city needs, with a focus on economic, social and technical development. Policy & Business, Data & Services, Open Innovation & Living Labs, technology and Standards will be addressed through different panels and interactive sessions during the day. With the theme “Empowering the change makers in cities” this conference is a must for urban Living Labbers. Read more here.

i2CAT hosts the first IoT Catalan Alliance meeting
Last week i2CAT organised the first IoT Catalan Alliance meeting in Barcelona which brought together businesses, government and Living Labs from Catalonia in lively discussion. This initiative aims to join forces and define strategies among all actors involved in Internet of Things (IoT) to promote this emerging sector in Catalonia. Catalan organisations who have already developed activities in this area will explore their capabilities and needs, encourage the exchange of information, generate synergies among alliance members and provide an environment for product validation and interoperability testing. The Box, a new project for Haaga-Helia in 2016
The Box is a cross-disciplinary project developing sensory-stimulating technologies for service design, marketing and product development. Its aim is to help investors and operators in the hospitality and tourism industries improve service experiences and increase customer value. The project team will utilize different technologies to create chromatic atmospheres in commercial settings between January 2nd and June 30th, 2016. We look forward to discovering more about the project in 2016. Meanwhile read more here.
The power of GameJams
We are proud to announce further success stories after the first JamToday GameJam organised in 2015:
  • “Best First GameJam” certificate received by Laurea University of Applied Sciences and ENoLL collaboration
  • Bonfire team representing Finland and Laurea University of Applied Sciences announced as the winner of the International Business GameJam category during the JamToday Fair hosted in Barcelona by Citilab. Read more about the event on the students’ blog.
Soon we launch the next call for hosting 2016’s GameJam in collaboration with ENoLL, which will focus on teaching mathematics through games, so stay tuned and join our webinar in January to learn the ins and outs of organizing a GameJam!

ENoLL meetings in January 2016
On January 19-20 the ENoLL Council (Board of directors) will meet in Brussels for the discussion and approval of the ENoLL Operational Plan 2016 and to progress on network strategic topics. The General Assembly will also convene on the 20th and all Living Labs working in the urban innovation domain are invited to join the ENoLL Smart City Expert Group workshop in the afternoon on the 20th. These meetings are followed by the Connected Smart Cities Conference (January 21st). Details of the meetings and registration are directly distributed to ENoLL members. Organising a GameJam: webinar for members
Would you like to try the fun way of assessing a problem by playing? Applied games do more than teach or train and have other goals, such as persuasion, exercise, and (physical) therapy. Join our JamToday webinar on the 14th of January 2016 at 14h CET that teaches you the basics of Applied Games, Stakeholder Analysis and the steps on how to organize a GameJam. Call for Papers: Decentralizing the Commons
The The P2Pvalue project in collaboration with the Institute of Network Cultures has started to prepare a book to explore the topic of decentralisation in the commons sector. They welcome proposals from academics ranging from computer science, engineering, sociology, philosophy, cultural studies, digital studies, etc. Submissions must be sent by January 30th 2016. Discovering more about ECIM
One of the projects we are currently working on is ECIM, the European Cloud Marketplace for Intelligent Mobility. The goal of the project is to develop a co-creative marketplace for transport solutions for the smart city. Numerous applications can be foreseen in your city and region. We will share more information and calls to action during the coming months but in the meantime, watch this video to discover more!
Design for Europe case study: co-creating a better pharmacy service
Design for Europe, an initiative we support and are engaged with, aims to promote design-driven innovation in Europe. On designforeurope.eu you find case studies, tools, events, EU funding calls, discussions, contacts and much more relevant to actors in the design field. This month we propose you this interesting case study from the UK: presenting a co-design workshop & how design helped to create a better pharmacy service for patients and staff at Whittington Hospital Pharmacy
Future of Active and Healthy Aging
Read our short report on the 4th EIP AHA Partners’ Conference where relevant stakeholders, policy makers and partners of the EIP AHA action groups came together to share an overview about the current actions of Regional and Local Authorities, hear about the EIP AHA partnership’s achievements, visions and next steps. The role of Living Labs and the importance of user engagement were stressed in each action group’s session. If you are interested join and learn more about the partnership, visit the EIP AHA page.

ICT-LEIT Info Day on January 25 in Brussels
The European Commission’s DG CONNECT (‘Net Futures’ Directorate) is hosting an Info Day about current open 'calls' for research funding grants and calls under "Horizon 2020 ICT Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (LEIT)" that will open soon. The Net Futures' Horizon 2020 Workprogramme 2016-2017 calls focus on various areas within ICT Research & Innovation (such as networks, cloud, IoT, Net Innovation etc.). Beyond Data Event, March 29, City of Eindhoven
At the European Beyond Data Event on the 29th of March communities and stakeholders from around the world come together to share experiences, enthusiasm, shape innovative ideas and tackle problems relating to Data. Participants will be presented with inspiring cases from cities, industries, research institutions in addition to innovative start ups sharing their early adopters insights.
