Welcome to the Earth Science and Applications from Space (ESAS 2017) mailing list!  We hope to provide you with the latest updates on the progress of the decadal survey and let you know how you can participate.

STEERING COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED

We would like to thank all those who either volunteered or nominated colleagues to take part in the decadal survey.  Provisional approval of the ESAS 2017 steering committee has been announced; please visit our website to learn more about its members.  The first meeting of the steering committee will take place on January 18-20, 2016 in Washington, D.C. (details about the meeting will be posted on the ESAS 2017 website).  The steering committee will be augmented by some 80 community members serving on various study panels and working groups.  Nominations to these groups will begin in earnest early next year.  All nominations previously submitted, as well as any nominations received on or before January 4, 2016, will be considered during the panel appointment process.

The appointment of the steering committee is just the first step in the survey process.  In addition to service on the study panels/working groups, there will be many other opportunities for community members to participate, including workshops and town halls.

SPREAD THE WORD

Given the diverse and interdisciplinary nature of Earth science research, input from the entire academic community is critical for the success of the decadal survey.  Please do your part to spread the word to your friends and colleagues.
