On Friday, December 11, the City of Petersburg will host the Holiday Illumination and Santa's Christmas Pageantry in Old Towne Petersburg.

A march from the Courthouse to the Union Train Station at 5 p.m. will kick off an evening of Christmas reverie. Coordinated with regular Friday With the Arts activities, Santa’s Work Shop will be transported from the North Pole to the Union Train Station. Bring your kiddies to whisper their Christmas wishes and have a picture made with the jolly old elf.
Other featured events include carolers singing holiday favorites, Christmas story readings, carriage rides, a petting zoo, reindeer games and many more surprises... All capped off with a fireworks display.

The following streets will be closed on Friday, December 11 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sycamore and Tabb street
- Sycamore and Bank street
- Sycamore street and Old Street

There will be no vehicular traffic allowed on River Street and the Farmers Market Circle from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. to allow time for set up. Once the last car of the parade passes, the area will be opened up to allow for parking and traffic to pass through in this area.

Please come join the evening’s fun and show the true spirit of Christmas and the solidarity of "I am Petersburg".

Here are some more things happening for the Friday for the Arts Holiday Illumination on Friday, December 11!

- Macy's will be hosting an ugly sweater contest & giving giveaways throughout the night
- Santa's Village- Union Train Station.. Santa's workshop, Christmas reading, picture with Santa, etc..
- Santa's workshop is sponsored by Home Depot, Kids get to play elf for their time in Santa's Village
- Toys R' Us- raffle, giveaway

Centre Hill Holiday Open House
The annual Holiday Open House at Centre Hill Museum will be held on Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Admission is free for the weekend activities for the public as well as those with a Historic Petersburg Foundation Christmas Tour ticket.  Centre Hill is located at 1 Centre Hill Avenue in Petersburg.
 
Entertainment will be provided by the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School Harp Trio from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the Winds and Guitar Ensemble from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, the Bowld Sojer Band will play from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Families and friends are invited to come join Petersburg Museums in this holiday tradition and for some festive music that is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
Petersburg Public Library
Come join us for a Book Club discussion, "Come Rain or Come Shine" by Jan Karon on Monday, December 7 at 2 p.m. It will be held in the staff conference room. Please read the book before attending the meeting! Tea will be served. Email Cindy Bell at cbell@ppls.org or call (804) 451-3762 if you will attend. 

Meet Virginia author Barry Brown who will introduce and sign copies of his book, "A Journey to Balance". His book signing will be held on Thursday, December 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Multi-purpose room. Light refreshments will be served.

It's a bit chilly outside, but our Farmer's Market is open Saturdays, 9 a.m. to Noon! The new location is 125 E. Washington Street. There are Christmas trees and wreaths for sale. Purdue Landscaping is the vendor providing these items.
 
Atiba Muse has fresh fruits and vegetables. Mikaelenell Robinson's business, Herbs-n-Spice Soaps is a 13 year vendor at the Market.
 
Jo's Mobile Flowers has flower arrangements, dried fruits, teas, and pink potatoes. We anticipate two new vendors on Saturday with sauces, spices, and vinegars. New vendors are welcome!

~ Create Your Own I AM PETERSBURG® Logo Contest ~
 
The entire City is invited to participate in the I AM PETERSBURG® logo contest. Through January 31, 2016, users can go to the I AM PETERSBURG® website and create a logo. The top 5 logos will be posted and voted on February 3, 2016 – February 15, 2016.

Their logo will be posted on a designated billboard in the City. Everyone is encouraged to go to the website, create a logo and post on social media channels. Be sure to use #iampetersburg when posting an I AM PETERSBURG® logo on social media.
