ALiCE training to start in February

School staff should have or will be receiving a brief overview of ALiCE from their building principal. The schedule for building staff trainings is being finalized and are slated to begin in February 2016.

Once all KUSD staff are trained, students will also receive training. This plan is still being developed along with a rollout plan for all KUSD schools.

Winter break tips

As winter break is quickly approaching, it is important for all staff to:

  • Shut blinds
  • Empty any perishable items out of refrigerators
  • Make accommodations to care for plants or animals in classrooms/offices
NOTICE: Security systems will be armed in every building and card access systems at the schools will not work over break unless there is an event covered by a building use permit. Also, there will be no custodians over break and temperatures will revert to 55 degrees.

Parent classes now available

Leadership from administrators, teachers and parents is essential for effective home-school partnerships that support increased student achievement. Educators need and deserve the support of their students' families, and that is what we are encouraging in the Kenosha Unified School District.

Recently, 44 parents completed the Parent Leadership Class. We thank the administrators from the participating schools and value the involvement and engagement of their families. We encourage every school to participate and urge their families to take advantage of this opportunity. When we have parents on our side, teachers can more effectively manage academic and behavioral issues that arise.

To implement a class at your school, please contact Juan Torres or 359-6300.

“When we educate parents, we are educating the community,” - Juan J. Torres, coordinator of diversity student and family engagement.
