Maths is Fun!

Reciprocal learning at its best

Over the past few days, Year 6 JM were tasked with designing a Maths game that could be played by Year 3 students.  They had to think about what would provide a learning experience for the Year 3s, making sure to pitch the game at the appropriate level.   The Year 6 students also had to make sure that the instructions for the game were easy to follow and that the game would be interactive and enjoyable for all.

On Thursday, 26 November they came to play their games with Year 3 AH.  It was fantastic to see the coaching and mentoring by the Year 6 students and how involved and interested the Year 3s were in the games they were playing.  A lot of fun and learning was had by all.

At the end of the lesson, the Year 3s had an opportunity to discuss the games they played, which ones they enjoyed the most and what skills they had practiced.  The Year 6s were able to reflect on their games, thinking about what worked well and what they could have done differently.

Making maths fun is one of the best ways to encourage a love of learning in your child.  Remember, “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.” ~ Albert Einstein.
