Lord,

This second week of Advent,
we remember we are now, as always,
in the holy presence of God.

Loving Creator,
bless us with the gift of a tenacious faith
that will not be gainsaid
as we strive to reach you every day.

Amen.

Annual Fund
The Annual Fund supports everything that happens at BSM on a daily basis. Your support has a direct impact on the experience of all students here at Benilde-St. Margaret's School from tuition assistance to faculty development. You may be receiving a call from our wonderful student phoning team this week, so please consider making an Annual Fund gift today. Gifts can be mailed to BSM (attention: Advancement Department), or you easily can make them online here. We thank you for your continued support!

Featured Red Knight Caller: Peter McCague
Peter is a multi-talented senior here at BSM. He is a Red Knight swimmer, involved with technical theatre and is the President of the Student Council. Peter says that his favorite thing about being a part of the BSM community is, "looking around and seeing everyone watching out for each other. Obviously, everyone that donates money to the Annual Fund cares about the students here, but nothing compares to walking the halls as a student and seeing all of the bright smiling faces happy to see you every day. Feeling supported and getting the feeling that you, and everyone around you, are important is the best part about being a Red Knight."

Parents of Freshmen:
Ask your son or daughter about the “Freshmen Friday” experiences they have had so far. Freshmen Friday Day #3 was Friday, November 20. Panels of seniors talked to the freshmen about what they’ve learned through the years in regards to academics and extracurricular activities, as well as how they have created and maintained relationships with friends and family. Freshmen Friday Day #4 was held on Friday, December 4, where freshmen took a “Strengths Finder” inventory and began to compile a “resume” in Naviance, listing activities they are involved in this year.

Parents of Sophomores:

On Tuesday, December 1, the counselors held our second “Sophomore Session” of the year. Sophomores took a personality inventory and completed some other career-related activities in their Naviance accounts.

Parents of Seniors:

  1. Scholarships from colleges:  Look on each of your colleges’ websites for scholarships. You can find this information in the admissions section of a college’s website. Many colleges use the application for admission to award scholarships, but some colleges require that you fill out an additional scholarship application for some or all of their scholarships. Typically, college scholarship applications are due between December and February, but some may be earlier.
  2. Local and National Scholarships (Not from a college): To locate scholarship information in Naviance, from the home page, click on the "Colleges" tab, and scroll down to the bottom of the page. The "scholarship list" and "National Scholarship Search" are located here. Other helpful sites are bigfuture.collegeboard.org, fastweb.com, scholarships.com. Scholarship searches should be FREE. You should not pay for this service or to apply for a scholarship.
  3. The College Financial Aid Program for Parents of Seniors is Wednesday, January 6 at 7 p.m. in the BSM theater. Jeron Schmidt, Associate Director for Admissions at Northland College, and Danielle Whitney, Admissions Counselor for Iowa State, will be presenting. They will discuss the financial aid process, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and CSS Profile forms, and sources to help pay for college.

Second Semester Schedules

Schedule changes for second semester will be made December 1-18. Students should see their counselor to make changes. No schedule changes will be allowed for second semester courses after Christmas break. Schedule changes will NOT be made for teacher or period preference. The counselor breakdown is below:
