Proudly presenting: Calvendo's first ever "Made in the UK" wall calendar edition

A couple of months ago, we asked our self-publishers to submit calendars under the headline “Made in the UK” – with no further restrictions: Traditions, sights, quirks, anything was possible and our users had the freedom to interpret the headline freely and let their creative juices flow. Now and in time for Christmas (gift ideas!), we have a lovely collection of wall calendars in our first ever “Made in the UK” edition, featuring anything from magical woodlands, to Sottish, Welsh and English landscapes, by way of vintage cars, steam trains and much more. We’ve got photography, digital paintings and even calligraphy! It’s eclectic, quirky and quite beautiful – just like the UK.

A huge thank you to all our authors who submitted their work for “Made in the UK”!
And here they are – proudly presenting (Yes, that’s an invitation to click)

Three ground rules for creating calendars

What’s the best way of learning how to create good wall calendars with Calvendo?
Let’s ask a seasoned pro: Heiko Gerlicher, a German Calvendo user, has published a number of successful calendars with our platform and was awarded a prize for nature photography that is selected by the German jury each year. And he’s got a very simple but vital thing to say: “The only real challenge when creating wall calendars is to come up with an appropriate and harmonic selection of images for your respective theme.”

We think he’s right and we also see that a lot of users have trouble when it comes to selecting images and coming up with a product that “makes sense”. Therefore, we’ve got three round rules for you in order not to fail here and create a wall calendar that is composed in a coherent and interesting way:

A) Your images need to reflect your calendar’s title theme; not just a bit or kind of but one hundred percent. And the more specific your theme is, the better.

B) Your calendar needs to be carefully composed and mindful of content and season because it’ll accompany the buyer for a whole year. You need to structure your work and always consider that each image will be on somebody’s wall for a whole month so it needs to be strong enough not to get boring after a couple of days.

C) Buyers don’t like different styles in one calendar. Don’t mix black and white and colour photography, don’t mix photography with paintings, stick to one style and make sure that your calendar follows one visual concept throughout so that the buyers know what they’re getting and what your general theme is.

Submitting work over Christmas and New Year

Last but not least, a quick note on how we handle projects that you submit between Christmas and the New Year: Our jury won’t be evaluating and releasing your calendars during this period and you should expect to get their feedback from the second week of January onwards. Your calendars will then also be automatically assigned 2017 dates. Having said that, you can still submit projects should you get bored and/or very creative on Boxing Day and towards the end of the year. Nothing will get lost. It’ll only take a few days longer until you hear back from the jury and your calendars will already be for 2017 then.
