      Step in to Christmas...
Christmas is just around the corner – how do I know? Well, Christmas cards have been in the shops since August, so it’s not that… I know how I know… X-Factor (more like the Y- Factor, Y for Yawn) and ‘Strictly’ have both crowned their winners. That can only mean one thing – it’s time for family, fun and festivities!

So, here is the last edition of Real People in 2015 – and what a year it has been! A year of many changes for ARC England, our members and the sector overall. This year I became the first ever ARC England Director, a great honour and a challenge I am relishing, I must say.

People who receive support develop inspiring Christmas message

A team that receives support and also helps improve the support that others receive, as experts by experience, has produced an inspiring Christmas Message video for the Social Care sector.

Community Integrated Care’s Peer Reviewers have developed and starred in the video, which can be watched at www.xmasmessage.co.uk. In it, they describe how securing their Peer Reviewer roles and receiving personalised support has changed their lives this year. They also have an important message for the social care sector, thanking the dedicated people who deliver fantastic support, not just at Christmas time – but all year around. It celebrates that with personalised support anything is possible. Read more and watch the video here.

ARC Members, CareTech - supporting the recruitment and retention issue in the West Midlands.

Together with BCPC (Black Country Partnership for Care) and other partners, CareTech is the lead partner in supporting 2 pilots – the ‘Care Hub’ projects in Dudley and Wolverhampton. These initiatives are funded through the Skills Funding Agency and the Skills For Care workforce innovation fund. The Care Hub concept originated in Partick, Scotland and is a one-stop hub for both employers to advertise vacancies and jobseekers to identify roles in the sector, as well as benefiting from placement and training opportunities. The rationale behind the hub is to address significant growth in the number of vacancies in the sector, which is anticipated to rise to 90,000 by 2025, whilst also developing
a range of projects, initiatives and training to meet employers needs.

People working in the sector can spread the word about the following myth-busting days for jobseekers, so please do display the below flyers for the events in Wolverhampton and Dudley. If you would like to get involved in the Hub by offering site visits, work placements and interviews to successful graduates of the programme, the Care Hub would like to hear from you.

Upcoming Care Hub events for job seekers - BCPC Myth-Busting Day for people with an interest in working in the care sector: Please call Jeni on 01902 551083 or email jeni.kingston@wolverhampton.gov.uk for more information or to arrange your session at one of these events.

An autistic person's Christmas: not bah humbug, just bald incomprehension. "Sometime around the beginning of December my colleagues start to speak a foreign language – Christmasese. I can’t help thinking that for those of us who are autistic it should come with a phrase book of ready-made questions and answers. But it doesn’t, so we get through as best we can."
